"Well, that would be my Fire Dragon Slayer magic," I answered.

I saw a flicker of shock in his eyes, but he recovered quickly. "Well, ice and fire don't mix," he stated, his voice turning serious.

"Ice is calm, controlled, and peaceful. Fire is rage, chaos, and destruction. Do you understand the difference?"

I thought about what he said, about the burning fury of my fire and the cold, precise crackle of my lightning. "So," I reasoned, "to properly wield my ice magic, I need to be calm and collected."

"Yes," Gray confirmed with a nod. "But it's more than that. Your emotions fuel all of your magic. You need to learn how to be calm in any situation, even when your friends are at death's door. Because if you let your emotions run wild, your magic will waver, and you'll make mistakes."

He then dropped into a distinct fighting stance, one hand over the other. "I use Ice-Make magic. It's a type of molding magic. You're supposed to use two hands while casting, but you can use one, it just won't be as strong. The most important part is to visualize what it is you want to make, to see it clearly in your mind. Do you understand?"

I nodded, absorbing every word.

"Good," he said. "Now, let me show you how my magic works."

I could hardly wait.

"ICE-MAKE: SHIELD!" he yelled.

A large, intricate shield of solid, crystal-clear ice materialized in front of him. It was thick, layered like a flower, and I could feel the immense amount of magic power packed into its structure. While he held the pose, I quickly used Observe.

He let the shield dissipate into a cloud of cold mist. "I want you to copy my stance," he instructed. "And I want you to channel your magic power into it. Understand?"

"Yes," I said.

I did as he said, mimicking his stance perfectly. I closed my eyes, took a deep, calming breath, and started to let my magic power flow, not as a raging fire, but as a calm, cool stream.

"Open your eyes," I heard him say.

I did, and I saw that the ground beneath my feet was starting to frost over, the moisture in the air crystallizing around me.

"Now, focus it," he commanded. "Draw all of that cold energy into your hands."

I did as he said, feeling the intense cold gathering in my palms.

"Now, do what I did. Visualize the shield. Release the power in that form."

I brought my hands forward, the image of his shield crystal clear in my mind.

"ICE-MAKE: SHIELD!" I yelled.

A shield of ice erupted in front of me. It wasn't as intricate or as thick as his, but it was solid. It actually formed. I looked over at him, and I could see the genuine surprise on his face.

"Good job," he said, a small, impressed smile on his lips.

"Thanks," I replied, a grin of my own spreading across my face.

"Hmm," he mused, stroking his chin. "With your talent, I believe you could learn all of my moves very easily."

"Excited Really?!"

"Yes."

….

After a few hours of intense but incredibly rewarding training, I had managed to learn and master the basics of all of Gray's Ice-Make spells.

"So," Makarov said, walking over with a proud smile. "What magic would you like to learn more about next?"

I thought about it, considering all the possibilities. Then, a single, powerful word came to mind.

"Fairy," I said.

The cheerful chatter from the onlooking guild members instantly stopped. The name of their own guild, spoken as a type of magic, caught everyone's attention.

"Oh?" a new, gentle voice asked. "You know of Fairy magic?"

I turned around to see who had spoken.

Standing there, shimmering like a ghostly apparition that only those with the Fairy Tail emblem could see, was a young girl with long, wavy blonde hair and a winged, pink dress.

"Yep," I confirmed with a nod. I couldn't help but let out a small chuckle.

"Hey, what's so funny?" she asked, puffing out her cheeks in a cute pout.

"Sorry," I said, my smile widening. "You just remind me of someone I know."

"Anyways," she said, floating a little closer, "I'm Mavis Vermilion."

"The First Master of Fairy Tail," I finished for her, my voice filled with respect. "The Fairy Tactician."

A wave of surprise rippled through the onlooking guild members. Makarov himself looked shocked.

"How did you know that?" Mavis asked, her ethereal green eyes wide with curiosity.

"Intel is vital in war," I explained simply. "For instance, if I didn't know who my enemy was, I could accidentally kill my allies instead."

"But anyway," she pressed, her excitement clear, "can you really use Fairy magic?"

Just then, I felt the familiar weight of Voltaris on my shoulders.

"Yes, he can," he stated. "He just doesn't know how to use it yet."

Mavis's face lit up with a brilliant, determined smile. "Well," she declared, "leave that to me!"

….

A few hours later, I was looking at a completely dumbfounded Mavis. She looked like a child whose favorite toy had just been taken away.

"No fair," she mumbled.

I couldn't help but smile. "Eh? But why?"

"Pouting It took me years to master all those spells!" she whined. "How can you learn them that fast?"

"Simple," I said, puffing out my chest. "I'm awesome."

Voltaris materialized on my shoulders yet again, a habit he seemed to be getting fond of. "It's thanks to me, actually. He can learn spells faster than a normal human. That was another of my skills that I passed down to Shiro here."

Hearing that it was due to a Dragon God's power seemed to soothe her wounded pride a little. She suddenly perked up, a brilliant idea clearly forming in her mind.

She zipped over to Makarov, I had started calling him Gramps in my head, and whispered excitedly in his ear.

I saw his face light up as he listened. He walked over to me, a broad, happy smile on his face.
