I saw his face light up as he listened. He walked over to me, a broad, happy smile on his face.
"Shiro," he said, his voice filled with a newfound warmth. "Mavis has asked me to give you a guild emblem. This type of emblem is special; it's for an alliance. I would like for you to take it, to show that if anyone wants to mess with you, then they mess with Fairy Tail."
I thought it over, the weight of his offer settling on me. An alliance with the strongest guild in Fiore… it was more than I could have ever hoped for. A genuine smile spread across my face.
"Yeah," I said, my voice thick with emotion. "I'd like that a lot."
"ALRIGHT!" a loud voice roared. Natsu, who I'd discovered during a break that I had a lot in common with, jumped up with Happy, both of them cheering.
I couldn't help but sigh at his boundless energy. I saw Mirajane, with her sweet, beautiful smile, walk over to me, a magical stamp in her hand.
"Where would you like it?" she asked gently.
I lifted up the right sleeve of my t-shirt, showing her my shoulder. "Here."
"What color?"
"Surprise me," I said with a grin.
She pressed the stamp to my skin. It glowed for a moment, a warm, tingling sensation spreading through my arm.
I looked down to see the Fairy Tail emblem, a beautiful, swirling design in a mix of crimson and gold, looking like a flickering flame.
"Oh, so pretty," I murmured, admiring it.
"I thought you'd like it," she said, her smile as radiant as ever.
Just then, a cold chill ran down my spine. I felt it, a sudden, intense feeling of being watched, but not by anyone in the guild. This was a gaze that did not have good intentions.
The feeling of being watched faded as quickly as it came, leaving me with a lingering sense of unease. Shaking it off, I walked over to the bar where Mirajane was wiping down a glass.
"Mira," I asked, putting on my most charming smile. "Can I please have a drink?"
"No," she replied, her own smile just as sweet, but firm. "You're underage."
"Pouting Aw, no fair," I grumbled.
It was then that I remembered the time. Hours had passed since I'd left Grayfia. The girls were probably worried.
"I almost forgot," I said, hopping off the barstool. "I gotta get back to my girlfriends."
I heard a wolf-whistle from a nearby table. "A ladies' man, eh?" a man named Macao called out with a laugh.
"Sigh I'll see you all next time," I said, waving to the guild. "I need to go."
"See you soon, my boy!" Makarov called out.
"Bye!"
I walked out of the boisterous warmth of the Fairy Tail guild hall and into the cool evening air. With a powerful beat of my wings, I launched myself into the sky, heading for home.

I had been flying for a while, the familiar landscape of Fiore passing below me.
'You know we have company, right?' Voltaris's voice was a low rumble in my mind.
I landed silently in a clearing, my wings folding away.
'Yeah, I felt them a minute ago,' I thought back.
I heard a soft whoosh of air and looked up. A small figure descended from the clouds, hovering in the air with the aid of a glowing magic circle. I nearly shit myself when I saw who it was. The small, blonde girl in the military uniform was unmistakable.
I immediately used Observe.

'I can take her,' I thought, analyzing the stats, 'but she's really smart. She could probably talk her way out of a locked room. This is dangerous.'
She aimed her rifle at me, and her blue eyes began to glow with an eerie, golden light. Intricate magic circles materialized around the barrel of the gun.
I saw her finger squeeze the trigger. A massive, explosive beam of golden energy shot toward me. I didn't move, but I reacted instantly.
"ICE-MAKE: DOME!"
A thick, multi-layered dome of ice erupted from the ground, encasing me just in time.
The blast hit with the force of an artillery shell, and I saw deep cracks spiderweb across the surface of the ice, but it didn't shatter.
A moment later, a volley of smaller, magically-infused bullets peppered the dome, and it finally exploded into a shower of icy shards.
I saw her drop her rifle. I was confused for a second, watching as it seemed to vaporize into motes of light.
Before I could even ask, she summoned two sleek, futuristic-looking pistols, one in each hand.
She charged at me, firing as she came. I summoned my dragon wings and took to the skies, dodging a hail of bullets that zipped past me, left, right, and center.
I looked behind me; she was in the air too, flying with terrifying precision. She was good, I'd give her that.
"HELLFLARE!" I yelled, launching a ball of black and purple fire at her.
She dodged it with a graceful aerial maneuver. I kept shooting them at her, but she evaded every single one.
I folded my wings and dove straight down, stopping just a few feet from the ground. She mirrored my move, landing silently across from me.
"You're decent," she said, her voice cold and analytical.
"Eh? That's it?" I shot back, a little insulted.
She scoffed, pointing her guns at me again. I held up my hands, a magic circle for Icicle Lance forming in front of each palm.
We stood there in a tense standoff. I saw her fingers start to pull the triggers, and I let loose, shooting seven sharp lances of ice at her.
Her bullets met them in mid-air, shattering them into frozen dust. I quickly switched to Hellflares, but she was already moving, firing a volley that forced me to duck and weave.
"ICE-MAKE: SHIELD!" I yelled, creating a thick barrier of ice in front of me. I finally had a shield, I thought, a moment to breathe.
Then I heard it.
