Chapter 282: Calming her mate
"His Majesty has returned from the hunt!" A loud announcement outside the castle gained everyone’s attention sitting in the living room. There were no growls or barks but instead menacing hisses filled the entire snake tribe. The air around all of the guests turned rigid as they sensed a higher-level beastman making his way in their direction. The wolf king together with his queen and the others stood up from their seats while gazing at the entrance of Snake Castle.
Mona hugged the lion cubs to her chest and waited with bated breath until she caught sight of a large black snake entering the castle. Shining coal-like scales and slit green eyes that shone. Within no time, the said Black snake shifted into its Beastman form before covering himself with a robe that her sister-in-law handed over. Then she saw the snake beastman embracing Lyra in a crushing hug. This must be the Snake King. Thought Mona as she saw the intimate interaction between her brother’s mate and the Snake beastman.
"I’m back, Lilly" Blake ignored all the prying eyes inside the room that were looking at him because his eyes were only on his most important person. His mate. She came first and everything else was next.
"Welcome back" answered Lyra while smiling at him. Blake made sure to check if the clothing she was wearing was warm enough and only then did shift his attention to the guests occupying his castle.
"Wolf King" With a brief nod to Lucas’ father, he was about to head inside to only get stopped by his mate. She tugged at his arm before looking in a certain direction, "That is Lucas’ brother-in-law, the Tiger King" Lyra didn’t want her mate to commit an unnecessary mistake due to lack of information. According to Blake’s standing, the only ones he must greet are the other Beast kings present inside the room. Victor was another story but King Sheru was a stranger as well as a powerful individual so respecting him was what they must do as King and Queen of the Snake tribe.
Realizing his mate’s motives, Blake followed her line of sight before greeting King Sheru with a curt nod. The latter acknowledged it with his own light bow. Blake then left that place saying that he would return after washing up and Lyra excused herself before following behind him. She didn’t want to leave but had no choice because she felt something was wrong in the way her Blake was looking at her. His gaze was adamant about wanting her company and hence she followed suit.
"That slimy bastard" Victor on the other hand clicked his tongue in displeasure as he felt jealous of Blake taking his mate away.
As the couple left the living room and walked deeper into the castle, Lyra noticed that her mate was oddly silent. He had his jaw clenched while taking long strides toward a certain direction. His demeanor looked rushed and was filled with unease.
Lyra was worried but also was falling behind due to difficulty in keeping up with his steps. So she couldn’t help but voice out, "Blake, walk a little slower, it is hard for me"
Blake hearing his mate stopped in his steps before turning back, "I’m sorry" he briefly said before he picked his mate up from the ground, "But I can’t go any slower because I feel like I will really die if I do that"
