Chapter 138: Can’t find her
Remo’s heart pounded furiously in his chest as he jolted awake, his breaths coming in ragged gasps. Sweat coated his brow, and his hands trembled as he frantically looked around the dimly lit room. For a moment, the remnants of the nightmare clung to him like a suffocating shroud, the image of Abby lying in a pool of blood burned into his mind.
But as his racing heartbeat slowed, and the fog of sleep began to lift, Remo realized with a sinking feeling that it had all been just a dream—a twisted manifestation of his deepest fears.
Relief washed over him in a wave, but it was short-lived as he glanced beside him and found Abby’s side of the bed empty. Panic surged through him once more, a primal instinct driving him to his feet as he scanned the room in a frantic search for her.
"Abby?" he called out, his voice hoarse with urgency. "Where are you?"
But there was no answer, only the eerie silence of the empty house echoing back at him. His heart hammered in his chest as he stumbled out of the bedroom, his mind racing with a thousand terrible possibilities.
Every shadow seemed to loom menacingly in the dim light, every creak of the floorboards a sinister omen. Remo’s paranoia threatened to consume him as he tore through the house, searching every room, every corner, every hiding place where Abby could possibly be.
But she was nowhere to be found.
His breath came in short, panicked gasps as he realized the gravity of the situation. Abby was gone, and he was alone in the darkness, grappling with the terrifying uncertainty of her whereabouts.
With trembling hands, Remo reached for his phone, his fingers ufumbling as he dialed her number, praying for the sound of her voice to answer him, to reassure him that she was safe and sound.
