The Twisted Obsession

Chapter 139: Answers

The city sprawled beneath Abby like a sprawling labyrinth, its myriad of lights flickering like distant stars in the evening sky. Yet, despite the bustling energy below, she found solace in the quiet solitude of the rooftop. The cool breeze whispered through her hair, offering a brief respite from the chaos that churned within her mind.

Lost in her thoughts, Abby traced the outline of the skyline with her gaze, her mind drifting to Remo. She couldn’t shake the feeling that he was walking on eggshells around her, as if afraid to touch upon the depths of her emotions. It was as if Cage’s words had been etched into her consciousness, haunting her with their truth.

Should she open up to Remo? The question echoed in her mind, bouncing off the walls of her uncertainty. She knew she was carrying baggage – scars from her past that she had carefully concealed beneath layers of bravado and false smiles. But would he want her if he knew the truth? Would he see beyond the facade she had erected?

A pang of longing tugged at her heart as she thought of Remo, his warm smile and gentle touch a beacon of comfort in her tumultuous world. Yet, the fear of rejection held her back, chaining her to the shadows of her own insecurities.

Closing her eyes, Abby took a deep breath, letting the cool night air fill her lungs. She knew she couldn’t keep hiding forever, couldn’t keep pushing away the one person who had managed to slip past her defenses. But the thought of exposing her vulnerabilities to him – of laying bare the shattered pieces of her soul – filled her with a paralyzing dread.

She heard hurried footsteps approaching, accompanied by the urgent call of her name. "Abby!"

Startled, Abby turned her head, her eyes widening as she spotted Remo sprinting towards her. For a moment, she feared he might crash into her with the speed of his approach, but he skidded to a halt just in front of her, bending over to catch his breath.

"Abby," he panted, his chest heaving with the exertion. "God, you scared the hell out of me."

Concern etched into his features, Remo scanned her figure quickly, searching for any signs of injury. "Are you alright?" he asked, his voice laced with worry.
