Chapter 174: A New Male Guard (1)
"Come with you too..." Before Madeline could complete her statement, Alaric stepped down from the podium and was heading towards another empty chamber that adjoined the Courtroom. He didn’t bother to tell Madeline to come along, knowing she was smart enough to comply and silently follow him in order to avoid getting mixed with the situation, and so far, Alaric wasn’t blind to Cas’s enemies.
Hiding her reluctance and squaring her shoulders, Madeline put on a brave face and followed Alaric into the adjoining room. To be honest, she felt grateful he decided to speak with her privately, else, with all those eyes waiting to ambush her, Madeline doubts she would be able to bear their hostility and ogles for another second.
As for Klaus, she wished she could get another chance to dish out enough beating to his existence. Those ill rumors really broke her heart, and she felt happy to have brought her stick with her for today.
"That woman’s insane." Uttered Klaus as he massaged his left arm, his body still quite sore from the beating he received from the mad woman. His brows knitted puzzledly as he watched them go into the adjoining room, wondering why Alaric would suddenly call for her privately.
With too many eyes here, it would be difficult to eavesdrop on the conversation without getting caught.
"Darn it!" He cursed underneath his breath.
Stepping into the empty room and closing the door behind her, Madeline’s gaze studied the simple, yet beautiful architecture of the room that was occupied with two to three arm chairs surrounding a table in the middle. Large frames containing unfamiliar pictures of warriors hung on the wall, and there was a wardrobe at the side which she guessed to be occupied with paperwork and royalty files.
Alaric took his seat on one of the arm chairs, and Madeline took quiet steps forward, standing before Alaric who seemed to be pondering over something in his head, his silver-gray colored eyes showing it. After an unknown minutes of silence, Alaric’s gaze finally shifted to the woman standing in front of him, and as if caught staring, Madeline instantly lowered her gaze.
"I know my actions must have disrespected your authorities but..."
"It’s okay." Alaric cut her off in a calm tone, surprising Madeline. "You don’t need to explain, I am a bit upset myself, but then I understand what you must be going through, and you must miss your husband after everything that has happened."
"This means you don’t suspect Cassian? How is he? Can I....can I see him?" She inquired in a concerned voice, hope returning to her eyes, but Alaric let out a breath and leaned forward, his hands clasped together as he met her steady gaze.
"You cannot see him." He said firmly, letting the hope in her eyes drop as her shoulders slumped, and her slim brows knitted in confusion and worry.
