Chapter 173: Encounter In The Courtroom (2)
Madeline’s appearance made everyone’s jaw drop in astonishment as she stepped into the courtroom, the foot of her heels clicking softly against the hard floor. As nervous as she felt doing this, Madeline knew it was necessary if she needed to solve the case at hand, and most importantly, check on Cassian and figure out how well he’s doing.
Her midnight black hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail, accentuating the delicate features of her youthful face. She wore a pair of round gold-rimmed glasses hanging from a chain around her neck. For a moment, the council were mesmerized by the sight of the pretty woman in front of them, but then it clicked that no woman is allowed to enter the courtroom when an important meeting like this is held.
Alaric, who was still in a daze, recovered from his slight shock and rose from his seat. Madeline met his gaze and bowed her head in greeting, but before Alaric could question her motive for being here, she turned her attention to Klaus who met her dark orbs that gleamed with a hint of hidden annoyance.
"Women aren’t allowed in the courtroom." Klaus said in a cool tone, but Madeline’s lip twitched at his fake countenance.
"I don’t care, if you are free to break the rules of His Majesty, so can I." Madeline said simply, pointing her stick at Klaus who took a step back in order to avoid getting whipped by the long wooden stick that was accusingly being pointed at him.
"Have you no shame?" She began, already pissed after listening to Klaus speak badly about her innocent husband who is presently injured. "You put up silly rumors, accusing my husband for what he didn’t do. If it wasn’t for Cas, your sorry self would have been stolen and used for Fiend raising."
"Woman!" One of the councilmen rose to his feet, looking obviously displeased that a random woman would walk in on them, and refuses to be held accountable for her actions. "What are you doing?"
"Bringing justice for my husband." She answered, turning around to look at the disgruntled man, unfazed. "As much as you wish to yell out your contribution to this conversation that doesn’t concern you, please be reminded that this is also a courtroom so I suggest you keep your tone down to avoid offending His Majesty."
Madeline bowed her head politely, her tone sounding considerate, but it was also a big slap to the council’s face hearing a woman giving him orders on what he should and shouldn’t do.
