Chapter 432: Inflatable Boats
After living in the apocalypse once before, there was no way Lu Zhen would let his family put themselves in danger for others.
Even if only their family survived in the end, he refused to put them in danger just to save a few more people.
He knew what it felt like to lose everything.
In the ancient earth, he had lost not just his home, but his soul as well.
When he witnessed Leng Pan get blown up just to buy time for survivors to escape to another space, he had felt something worse than death, and he was not ready to experience that again.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go and start fishing. It will also lead by example. Although most of the residents in this base still had supplies especially after that last supply hunt in the factory, they might not have much left. Besides, who would say no to more food?" Uncle Li urged and Lu Zhen stood up.
"You stay here. I will go out with Lu Hao and Assistant Yao first to scout and see if the fish is edible before we let others catch them."
"Can I go too?" Lu Tao asked but his brother just gave him a look and his restless bottom sat back down.
Li Yunjia laughed at the sight.
She was happy that after so many years, her children were finally close.
Before, the two brothers treated each other like a superior and subordinate.
However, this was because they never spent time together as Lu Zhen was always busy with the company and Lu Tao was in school.
They only saw each other occasionally and it was just briefly.
Now that they had spent nearly a year together eating and fighting side by side, they had become closer like real siblings.
"Then once you make sure it’s safe, can I go fishing?" Lu Tao didn’t give up and asked.
"Yeah. If there is nothing more than fish in the water, you can go catch as many fish as you want." Lu Zhen replied lightly.
"Okay, I’ll wait then." Lu Tao finished speaking and sent a message to Assistant Yao.
He came down not long after with his mother.
"Boss, what do you need me to do?"
"Let’s go out. We need to check out if the fish in the flood water are edible." Lu Zhen explained his purpose of calling him briefly and the three men walked out heading to the eighth floor.
This was the closest to the water and they would not have problems getting in their boats.
The people living on the lower floors had moved up and some families were even sharing one apartment temporarily until the flood water receded.
Now that the hailstorm had stopped, some people couldn’t wait to go out and look for food.
Thus, there was already an open window on the eighth floor used as a door since the entrance of the building on the first floor was already submerged under water a long time ago.
Without another word, Lu Zhen threw out a folded rubber boat that expanded as soon as it landed on the water surface.
He didn’t even need to inflate the boat himself and it was . already filled with air as soon as it touched water.
This was a product Lu Zhen had gotten from a partner company before the apocalypse started.
The partner had provided twenty such boats as samples before the cooperation and when Lu Zhen knew the apocalypse was about to start, he took them from the warehouse.
Now, they finally came in handy.
Once the boat had been inflated enough, Lu Zhen was the first to jump out of the window and land lightly on the boat.
The other two followed suit and landed in the boat one after another.
Once they had settled down steadily, Assistant Yao took two oars and began rowing towards the exit of the community.
Even though the water was way about the perimeter wall, Lu Zhen still felt that it would be more convenient to catch the fish outside.
Thus, they rowed a distance before stopping.
Lu Zhen then opened the backpack he had taken before leaving the house and pulled out a fishing net from it.
His brother, Lu Hao observed what he was doing and he took out a fishing net as well and cast it on the other side of the boat.
Not long after, the nets caught a good number of fish.
Lu Zhen pulled in his net first and all the fish he had caught was poured onto the boat.
Looking at some of the fish that were larger in size than normal, it wasn’t hard to tell that they had mutated.
To avoid any accidents, Lu Zhen put on some special gloves they had found in the mansion in the space bangle.
They were just like other gloves on the surface, however, they were so tough they couldn’t be broken easily.
So, wearing them would prevent any fish with a zombie virus from biting him and transferring it to him.
After dissecting a few fish, Lu Zhen realized that even though some of the fish had mutated, it didn’t carry the zombie virus.
They had just changed in size, nothing more.
Lu Hao also pulled in his net and after some experiment, the result was the same.
"Does this mean that all the fish is edible?" Assistant Yao asked curiously as he watched his boss work.
He wondered when his boss’ hands had become so cheap as to dissect fish.
Those hands used to sign contracts worth millions. Now, they were cutting fish.
However, thinking that the boss was doing all this just so that more people could survive, he thought that those fish were even more expensive than the contracts worth millions.
The best decision he ever made was clinging to the boss after the apocalypse started.
"Not necessarily. Let’s go and check out a few more spots. We can’t make such a serious judgement from only a few samples." Lu Zhen said and the three rowed the boat away from the first spot.
