Chapter 218 218 History
Voices overlapped, each one filled with worry or disbelief.
The female Roman recognized didn't speak. She watched the founder closely, her expression serious.
The founder raised his hand and the voices stopped for a second.
One of the men spoke, calmer than the rest. "Even if we agree… how do you plan to reach them? Their territory is filled with high-level demons. We might not even make it to the demon lord."
"If this had been a plan, shouldn't we have attacked the demon lord a long time ago, what changed?" One of the other females asked.
"That isn't the problem to worry about, the problem now is that if we attack the demon lord, who would train new mages, there's no way all 11 of us would survive, and if we are to bring more mages, we'll just be sending them to their death" one of the men spoke.
"The quality of mages has been increasing in recent times. Before long, we'll have a good army of powerful mages, maybe then we'll lead an attack on the demon lord, but for now it's not advisable"
The founder didn't react to their fear; he didn't speak, but instead waited for all of them so he could gather their opinions before finally speaking.
"There is something I found," the founder said calmly. "If we keep waiting, we die slowly. If we attack, we have a chance."
That word alone was enough, silence returned, heavier than before, since the founder was talking about a chance, which means he had a way of defeating the demon lord.
Roman could feel it now... this wasn't just a meeting, he had a front row seat to how the history of the world formed, in the history of the world, nothing about this was mentioned, this meant people just speculated what had happened.
One of the men finally spoke again, his voice low, "You said we had a chance, how come?"
"I came across a book on my journey, it was written by an elf, it contains legendary spells, some of which were so powerful, I don't think I would be able to cast the spells" He spoke.
"A spell book written by an elf, how did you come across it, where did you come across it?" The female who hadn't spoken finally spoke.
"I can't share the details, and I also wouldn't share any of the spells, you just have to trust me" He replied.
"Would the spell guarantee our safety, or is it simply just strong enough to defeat the demon lord?"
"I can't guarantee our safety, I also can't guarantee my own safety, what I can say is that if it does work, we'll see a time of peace for our generation and future generations to come"
"What if we fail?"
The founder didn't hesitate.
"Then humanity falls faster, and we leave the fight to the other mages and hope for the best"
No one liked that answer, the entire table fell silent again. The risk was clear. If the founder died, it would only speed up the end. But doing nothing would lead to the same result, just slower.
Roman watched all of them, but there was something wrong with all of these, if the founder really found a book written by elves, why didn't he share some of the spells with them?
Since there were the strongest humans, sharing the spells with them would increase their chances of survival and even defeating the demon lord.
Roman thought about it and in that instance a single answer came to his mind, the founder had found a book on forbidden magic.
Since he refused to share the spells, the location, or the circumstances that led to him obtaining the book, Roman was 97% sure his guess was correct, and in doing that he was protecting the rest of them.
The other 3% was the slight chance that the founder didn't want to share the spells with them so he also would be the greatest, but Roman knew that couldn't be the case.
The room grew quiet as everyone began to think. The weight of the decision sat on all of them. Then the female closest to the founder, whom Roman recognized spoke.
"I'll go."
All eyes turned to her.
Her voice wasn't loud, but it was firm. "If this is our only chance, then I'll fight, we might not get a chance as good as this, and since he's that confident, then I'll go"
One by one, a few others began to speak as well, no matter their doubt, they still agreed because even if all of them refused, the founder was going to try to do it alone.
They had been with him for some time now and all of them knew he would lay his life down for any of them, he would even lay his life on the line for a random human just to protect them from demons.
Most of them practice spells on their own, but he was the one who introduced them to magic.
"So what is the plan?" One of the men asked.
"The plan...Well, I wouldn't really call it a plan, it's more of an..."
"Don't tell me you don't have a plan?" One of the men spoke as he placed both his hands on his head, "We're all going to die"
"Don't say that, I have a plan, the demon castle is located right here, he said pointing to the table, and suddenly his mana materialized and formed a map on the table.
'I don't think I should be surprised, when has...' Roman took a step back as the founder stopped talking and turned towards him.
Just like last time the founder was looking directly at him.
'There's nothing behind me, can he see me, I didn't think he...'
Roman screamed as he felt a sharp pain in his head, he clutched his head with both his hands as he fell to the ground and curled his body, it felt like someone had thrust a sword into his head.
The next moment Roman heard a sound and opened his eyes, he was back in his room in the palace.
