Chapter 44: Pig.
It was a moment nobody could even imagine going to happen again, that in the daytime a shooting would occur in the middle of the city... and officers died. Almost like a hallucination, almost like a bad dream as the first responders arrived as dozens of calls came in about a shooting involving officers, and when they arrived at the scene what they saw was just... brutal and horrifying.
Dozens of bullet shells, and most importantly the police car... and with one look everybody could tell that there was no way anybody survived it, no... there wasn’t even a chance to survive it.
Bulletholes spread across the driver and passenger seat... but some of the officers were lucky... lucky that they weren’t the first responders, the ones that opened the doors, and saw what would stick with them for their whole life.
Emma Rij... a rookie officer in her early twenties, just leaned back in her seat with an unrecognizable face. Her jaw was literally just hanging by flesh, her skull was cracked open by the barrage of bullets that hit it and her face was just covered with blood, so much blood that it was just... hard to describe... so hard that the first officer who opened the door immediately threw up, while the others could only tell who it was because of her name badge and unique pastel pink hair color... and it wasn’t just her but the officer next to her, Jisa Miram.
There was no effort to search for a pulse, no effort to hear if they breathed, because it was just obvious to everybody that... they died instantly as those bullets hit them... with no chance of them ever getting out of that car and second, whoever shot them was merciless, a brutal almost public execution... and that’s why almost immediately an emergency protocol was issued and every street, every officer was sent out, roadblocks were made before even the investigation began, because it was just clear that it wasn’t no ordinary shooting and judging the amount of shells, it was something far greater than that.
And it just became more obvious when the officers saw the scene up at the 20th, even some of the old timer officers who rushed up to see what exactly happened were stunned by it.
They didn’t even need to go into the office because the scent of the blood was so powerful that they could literally taste it as the elevator doors opened...but when they did, it was one of the worst scenes they had seen in their whole careers. It was straight up just devilish, the blood spattered everywhere, that woman on the ground looking her face deformed like an unholy being... yeah, Ivanka Plina and the two men, Trevor Hibber and Albert Ponnas.
Well-known people by the police department or more like they made themselves well-known by bribing some of them... and now looking at them as a bribed officer was nothing but straight up terrifying... that somebody killed the elders of the old era.
But with the witness statements and knowing who they were, the dots connected before even starting a proper investigation.
"The roadblocks, tell them to search every car, and if they spot Joseph Cassian, immediately arrest him." Ethan Kilber, the lead investigator of the city police department said as he was already getting on his gloves while looking at Trevor’s limped back body and that one final bullet hole in his head... people he once investigated himself, back in the glory days of the Cassian family.
