Chapter 263: Bait Beneath The Surface
A few minutes later, Amelia pondered over the recruitment offer.
She understood that while Seth might appear calm and rational, her refusal would most likely mean death.
There was just too much valuable intel revealed to her.
And the best way to ensure information won’t leak ever was a dead person.
The dead cannot talk, or at least that was the common concept in many people’s eyes.
"How do you know I won’t harm the Crown Prince?" Amelia asked. As someone known to be close with Bea, it was hard to imagine that they would still wish to recruit her to be in close proximity with Leonard.
"Because you aren’t foolish." Seth flatly replied.
"Fair enough!"
Sometime later, Amelia received a magic contract which listed the clauses.
The overall clause was that she had to serve as Leonard’s servant during his academy days. In return for her effort, they would divulge information about the investigation details to her, essentially telling her who caused Bea’s death.
Amelia knew she couldn’t blame the Crown Prince at all, nor did she even have the courage to. However, to the person who deceived Bea and handed her a deadly poison, she would get her revenge.
Even though it was said that the person who delivered was handled already, the true culprit remained hidden.
’Whoever concocted such poison could easily wreak havoc in any country.’ Amelia deduced. Moreover, she was certain that Seth gave her this job because he was hoping whoever was related to the poison would contact her secretly.
Sometime later, Amelia left to pack her things, alongside the belongings that the Crown Prince would require during his stay in the academy dorm.
Once her presence was gone, Spencer finally grumbled.
"I really don’t get why you want her of all people." He clicked his tongue.
Even though he wasn’t going to fault everyone related to Bea, there were still some doubts and concerns when he thought about having Amelia by Leonard’s side.
"Have you ever tried fishing?" Seth turned around to return to his desk.
"What does fishing have to do with this?"
"Those fishermen at the docks. They required bait to reel in a bunch of fish. Without baits, even the greatest trap design would prove futile if the fish refuse to enter."
"..."
Spencer was in dismay. He naturally understood this easy concept. But what he didn’t understand was the choice of bait.
Many servants in the dorm knew of Amelia’s relationship with Bea.
So how could their enemies not know either?
They weren’t going to turn idiotic after one failure.
"If you wanted a bait, then there’s better bait than Amelia. Even a fool would know we’re setting a bait out." Spencer complained.
Not to mention, he was frustrated that they had to keep Amelia’s identity a secret from Leonard. Given that Leonard rarely interacted with the servants, it was certainly easy to conceal the matter from him.
However, there was still another factor that they had to be wary of: Princess Eleanor of Xundraeth Continent.
"That Princess is eccentric. Who knows if she might spoil the plan?"
"You really are mainly all brawls and no brain."
Seth closed his eyes softly. If it wasn’t for the fact that they had known each other for so long, then he would have already kicked them out.
"Just let me do the arrangement, and you can continue to clean off the brainless one who wanted to assassinate the Crown Prince." Seth retrieved a book and began reading it at his own pace.
When Spencer noticed his action, he realized the latter was no longer interested in talking anymore.
’Going mute again.’ He squinted his eyes and ultimately exited through a portal.
...
Leonard’s Second Room
While that commotion was done, Leonard was being dressed by Mirelle in his new school uniform.
"Must there be so many layers?" Leonard had his arms extended in a T pose.
"This isn’t your regular uniform, Crown Prince." Mirelle ignored his complaints. "The many layers had defensive formations built in."
"This is no different than equipping some military uniform."
"You’re not wrong with that statement."
"Huh?" At this moment, Leonard was confused. Was this not an academy where you learn magic and battle with other students?
It can’t seriously be one of those where students get sent to dangerous front lines or other missions to earn credits, right?
Mirelle remained unaware of his thoughts and simply explained what she had learned from her fellow Instructor, Janice.
"From what I’ve heard, the academy managed to replicate certain scenarios in separate dimensions as a real-life simulation for practice. Because of the recent increase of monsters roaming around the wilderness, it was suggested that students get to learn combat skills as soon as they qualify."
"Damn, it’s really one of those..."
Leonard just knew the academy session would be a pain in the butt.
"You don’t appear to be excited." Mirelle was a bit baffled.
Almost every noble enjoyed this news because they got to show off their skills to impress their family. And if their rankings were high enough, then their standings within their household would also rise significantly.
"Mirelle, what is my current position?"
"The Crown Prince of Aldros."
"Then what rank is higher than that?"
"Emperor of Aldros—" Mirelle paused her words at this moment.
"You see that." Leonard gave him a funny look. His current position was as high as it could be unless he wanted to dethrone his father.
However, who didn’t know the current Emperor of Aldros was still full of vitality?
To dethrone him meant committing treason.
"Then what will you do at the academy?" She asked skeptically.
"Naturally, I will slack off." Leonard laughed wildly.
Just when he was about to continue, someone knocked on their door.
"Crown Prince, I have packed up your belongings for the academy."
"Come in."
Sometime later, Amelia entered the room and placed a suitcase down.
"Good morning, Crown Prince. I am Amelia." She introduced herself. "I will be accompanying you as a servant during your time at the Imperial Aldros Academy."
