Chapter 349 349: Ding!
The moment Gray stepped inside Alistair's office, he quickly shut the door behind him. He stopped walking for a moment and just stood right there.
His eyes swept across the room. He had been inside this room multiple times already for different reasons, but not this one.
"Damn, I am nervous," Gray muttered to himself.
He was completely alone, but the air around him felt eerily heavy. Just then, he let out a breath that he didn't know he was holding. He could feel his heart pounding forcefully in his chest.
*Thump
*Thump
*Thump
'I gotta start now or else...' With that thought, Gray quickly went to moving. He dropped his thoughts and immediately proceeded to Alistair's table.
He sat on his chair and pushed it so he could look at his desk. Alistair's desk was wide and had many drawers on both sides. They were most likely where the files were. However, there was still a locked drawer on the side, but he fortunately got the keys from Steven.
It will surely take him a long time, so he'd better start now.
Gray quickly opened the drawer and looked inside. Just as he expected, there were files everywhere. They were neatly arranged in order. He carefully removed the first pile and looked at it.
He quickly scanned it with his eyes. He made sure not to stare at them for too long. He made his movements at ease and unhurriedly. After looking at them, he would return them to exactly where they were.
He could not afford to make any mistakes. Not here when he knew that he was surrounded by CCTV cameras everywhere.
Gray continued looking through the files. One by one, he carefully pulled another pile from a different drawer.
However, every file that he saw so far was nothing but permits, budget reports, allocations, and expenses. They were all normal!
He was not here to find those things!
Gray quietly exhaled and returned the files exactly where he got them from. He looked through another drawer, and this one was just filled with infrastructure plans, supplier contracts, and materials.
Gray's brows slowly furrowed.
'Nothing again?' he was getting impatient.
Everything looked clean, and that annoyed him. There was nothing he could use against Alistair!
Gray pressed his lips into a thin line. For a moment, he paused and rested his hand on the open drawer.
His eyes stared at the files in front of him, but his mind was somewhere else.
'Come on…' His jaw tightened slightly.
'I didn't offer my help for nothing, did I?'
Heck, he didn't even care about the blue folder Steven asked for. That was just an excuse for him, so he could have a reason to be here.
The truth was, his real purpose was different. He needed to find something that could prove their claims when they exposed the real character of Alistair. They need to find something that could destroy him!
Because without proof, everything they were planning would collapse before it even began.
They needed evidence, and this was clearly the best place to find it.
Gray inhaled quietly and continued. He picked up another folder and opened it.
His eyes moved across the page. But after a few seconds, he just closed it again.
That was his routine until he finished all the documents on the table.
'Fuck… why is there still nothing?' His movements remained calm on the outside, but inside, frustration was slowly building in his chest.
Just then, his eyes moved to his phone. He quickly checked the time, and his eyes widened when he saw it
"Shit…" he whispered.
Time was passing faster than he expected.
Alistair could return anytime, and he couldn't afford to waste any more seconds.
Gray quickly stood up and walked towards the big cabinet. He quickly opened it with the keys he got from Steven. When the door opened, he was greeted by even more files!
'There are so many…'
For a brief moment, he felt overwhelmed. But he had no choice. He could only begin searching again.
He pulled out stacks of files and looked at them one by one. He was faster now and definitely more desperate to find something.
Minutes passed.
But still… There was nothing.
'Damn it…'
He grabbed another folder and opened it.
His eyes moved quickly across the contents. And just like the files he had been looking at, there was nothing useful.
He returned it and just reached for another one.
After a whole lot of minutes, he was able to reach the deeper part of the right side of the cabinet. He knelt down, and was about to get a stack of folders, when his fingers brushed against something cold.
Gray froze at that. His brows slowly furrowed.
That didn't feel like paper or a folder at all.
Slowly, he docked down and pulled the folders in his hand so he could see what was behind them.
And then, that's when he saw it.
At the back of the ride, on the side of the cabinet, there was a small metal vault. It was obviously locked and looked as if it was intentionally hidden there.
"W-what…" Gray stared at it as his heart pounded harder in his chest.
If he hadn't reached deeper, he wouldn't have noticed the vault at all.
"Why…Why is there a vault here?" Gray whispered. His voice was barely audible.
He leaned closer so his eyes could examine the vault closely. Slowly, his gaze moved to the center.
There, he saw a small keypad. He touched it, and what welcomed him was slots for the password. It's a 6-number combination.
Gray's breath hitched slightly.
"A code?" he whispered.
He leaned closer, examining it carefully. There was no keyhole so that means there was no other way to open it.
'Shit… I don't know the password for this.' Gray stared at it in silence.
He knew that this was what he was looking for!
"Oh no, what do I do?"
[Ding!]
Just then, a familiar chime rang in his head.
