Suddenly, I Am Rich

Chapter 348: Perfect Opportunity!

What Alistair did was a big mystery to Gray.

He had only heard it from Alistair’s employees when he passed by minutes ago from their office, and it’s killing him that he didn’t have any idea what it was.

’Damn... I regret that I didn’t go to the meeting.’ Gray pressed his lips together. He missed it because he thought he deserved a break from Alistair. But he guessed, he did it in a wrong time.

"Now there’s only one way to know what it was," Gray whispered in the air as he made a turn in the hallway. Just then, a familiar person caught his eye.

’Steven...’

That’s right. It was only Steven who could answer his curiosity right now.

Gray’s steps slowed down as he walked towards him. Steven was seated behind his desk outside the private office of Alistair. However, instead of his usual reserved and calm look, he looked quite frantic today.

You would see that some files were just scattered around his desk. He was also typing something on his keyboard quickly. He looked so focused that he couldn’t even look around, even for a second.

He was just moving fast, as if he was chasing something.

Gray watched him silently for a moment.

’He looks busy...’ Gray hesitated for a second, thinking that Steven was doing important work. But then, after thinking about it thoroughly, he continued walking.

"Hey, Steven," Gray called out calmly. "You look quite busy. Do you need any help?" he smiled sweetly at the man.

Steven jolted on his seat by the sudden voice. His head snapped to the side in surprise. He clearly didn’t expect someone to speak to him so suddenly.

But the moment he saw who it was—

"Sir Gray." Steven immediately stood up from his chair. He lowered his head politely and greeted the man.

"Good afternoon, sir."

Gray raised his hand right away and dismissed it to the side.

"No need for that, Steven," he said. "I already told you that you don’t have to be so formal with me."

Steven paused at that. He embarrassingly scratched the back of his head before a small and appreciative smile appeared on his face.

"Yes, sir," he said softly.

"By the way, sir, the mayor is still not here," he informed Gray. "He was held up at an event."

"An event?" Gray tilted his head slightly.

Steven nodded.

"Why are you here then?" Gray’s brows slightly furrowed at that.

"He told me to stay here and finish some of his work while he’s away."

"Ohh... I see." Gray’s eyes flickered at the papers on the desk.

With that answer, his curiosity only grew stronger.

’If he’s not here...’ His gaze slowly returned to Steven.

’Then this is my chance.’

Gray chuckled softly at that thought. He couldn’t let this opportunity slip from his hand!

"Well," he said casually, slipping his hands into his pockets. "If that’s the case, then I’ll stay here and help you with some work."

Steven’s eyes widened immediately because of his statement.

"Oh no, sir," he said quickly, waving both hands in front of him. "You don’t have to do that. You can just stay in the mayor’s office and wait for him. He already instructed that to me."

But Gray only laughed at that.

"How can I do that?, Steven," he said. "I’ll just be bored in there."

Steven opened his mouth, but Gray spoke first.

"What if you let me help you instead?" Gray continued, his tone light and kind. "I know you have a lot of work if he told you to stay here."

That was the only plausible reason that Gray could think of. He knew that Alistair was not someone to just leave his secretary alone.

"And also just look at that," Gray gestured to the scattered files on the desk as if it wasn’t that obvious yet.

"Come on," he added as the corner of his lips formed a grin. "This is a one-time opportunity, you know."

Steven froze at those words. He stared at Gray for a moment. He was clearly hesitating about it because how can he make his boss’s friend work just like that? And also, he wasn’t used to this.

Even his boss doesn’t offer him any help, what more if it’s just an outsider?

For a second, Steven didn’t know what to say. It felt absurd, but then when he thought of it, maybe it’s actually not that bad? He knew that Gray was kind, and with this help, maybe he could get his work done faster!

After thinking about it for some time, Steven let out a small sigh.

"Alright, sir," he said as a faint smile appeared on his face. "I guess I really need some help."

Inside, Steven felt relieved. Truthfully, he was already overwhelmed by all the work that Alistair put him because of yesterday. And not only that... Alistair told him to do something for him yesterday during the meeting.

Alistair gave him a simple instruction. He just need to find a blue folder with a golden line on top of it.

It sounds simple and easy, but the problem was that the mayor’s office was filled with files. And Steven had no idea where to even begin.

Alistair’s office had big cabinets for storage that stored his most important files because, as Alistair once said, those files are important to him and the only way to protect them was if it’s in his line of sight.

"Oh," Steven said, looking back at Gray. "Sir, there is actually something you can help me with."

Gray raised a brow.

"What is it?"

Steven straightened slightly.

"The mayor told me yesterday to find a folder," he explained. "He said it was blue with a golden line on top. He said it can be used against his enemies and that it’s related to the election." He hesitated for a moment.

’A file that can help Alistair?’ Gray’s eyes secretly widened at that. He turned his full attention to Steven now.

"He said it should just be in his office... but..." Steven gave a helpless smile.

"There are too many files inside. I might have a hard time finding it."

"Haha, no worries." Gray laughed lightly. He stepped forward and gave Steven’s shoulder a light clap.

"I can do it."

"R-Really?" Steven blinked.

"Of course," Gray said easily. "Just leave it to me."

His smile remained calm outside, but inside, his eyes darkened slightly.

’This is such a perfect opportunity!’
