Chapter 344 344: Amon's Trickery - Mr. Fool is... Crazy?!
Luke kept looking ahead, carrying absolute dread in his heart.
In front of him hung utter blackness; blackness not of space, but of Descorrer, the space still parting like a mouth with crooked teeth.
Then, it remained like that, its destination unseen, but not unknown.
Luke didn't need to ask to know which two ends of the cosmos Amon was trying to connect — one on this side of The Boundary and one… on the other side.
Luke had absolutely no idea how thick The Boundary itself was.
However, logically, if Amon was already using Descorrer, then it meant that it couldn't be that large, either.
And the teleportation Quirk could practically connect two opposite ends of the planet.
It all depended on the Complexity of the Quirk and Nyx's own stamina.
Which, in this case, seemed more than enough.
Luke waited without needing to breathe, a thought more horrible than any before this moment crossing his mind.
Any second, from the darkness, another figure would walk out…
It wouldn't be an Avatar or mere Parasite…
It would be an Angel…
It would be… Amon!
Yet one second passed, and another, but the darkness of teleportation kept hanging still, just like silence.
Nyx lifted her wing and squeezed her eye again.
Slowly, the parted space began closing as the Quirk ran out.
They remained levitating like lifeless objects in space for a while. Then, Luke lifted his hand out of his control and put it on Nyx. He instantly knew what Amon was doing — making him bestow the Descorrer Quirk again.
Moments passed, but no such bestowal of Quirk happened.
"How interesting…" Nyx commented amusingly. "… That's quite a trump card you have there, Dr. Blessed."
Luke wanted to react to that statement, but couldn't.
Trump Card?! What was Amon talking about?! What did he sense?! Miss Justice?!
Miss Justice had once told him that even if someone read his deepest thought, unless that someone was a true God, no one could find her existence.
So, no.
Amon hadn't sensed the System.
Amon… had failed to use Bioalchemy forcibly.
The only way for Amon to properly use such a demanding and highly complex Quirk, which needed Luke to arrange and lay out Quirk Factors that belonged to him and the lifeform was to parasitize him deeply.
From the way Luke found himself able to move and think properly again, he knew he had decrypted it right.
Then, Amon dropped the bomb on him.
"If we don't return to the atmosphere in 10 seconds," Nyx said, smiling amusingly, "then you two will die here."
What?!
Luke's eyes almost popped out, his heart jumping out of his mouth.
He hurriedly began bestowing a Super Complexity Descorrer upon Nyx that would need around ten seconds.
Any less, and he wasn't sure they would be able to reach the atmosphere in one go.
Also, even if Luke would be barely meeting the Super Complexity Quirk's requirement of Spirit Points, Nyx had more than plenty of Spirit Points, their value landing at 260 after her recent advancement.
So, Luke focused on the bestowal process this time as he had never before.
His entire face scrunched as he concentrated, calculating and optimizing layers of Quirk Factors upon each other before arranging them within Nyx.
It was surprising…
For any Quirk user other than him, this would be the moment to shout—Plus Ultra!
Nothing pushed a human mind like the clear sight of death, especially when there was hope to survive it.
The Super Complexity Quirk bestowal that Luke had never managed to finish below the ten-second mark was completed in nine and a half seconds this time!
Luke didn't even snap his fingers, resisting the mental urge, and activated the Quirk right away.
Nyx sliced the space toward Earth.
Luke jumped into it.
Bang!
As if he had hit a massive, elastic wall, Luke was thrown back with the force of a missile.
Before he could even realize what was happening, though, his back again landed on the same elastic wall and he was fired forward toward the planet this time, coughing blood.
Luke whirled across space like a broken piece of equipment, realizing that Amon hadn't created a portal toward earth, but to outside The Boundary again!
On his shoulder, perched very casually, Nyx lifted her wing and squeezed her eye again. "I thought a stronger version of this Quirk would work…" she cawed nonchalantly. "… or, perhaps, it would allow an insider like you to pass through. Hmm…"
Nyx sliced the space again.
And this time, when Luke's whirring figure entered, it kept going, disappearing into the blackness.
Not only had Amon fooled Luke, making the latter believe that his ten-second countdown to death was real, but He had almost made him believe that the Super Complexity Descorrer would be enough to reach Earth in one swoop.
It wasn't like he had suddenly become dumb, Luke realized, tasting blood as Nyx repeatedly used Descorrer in space, crossing tens of thousands of miles in a moment.
But Amon had tricked him, manipulating his memories and befuddling his mind.
Luke also realized that this effect was more severe on him because he was a lower Sequence Beyonder of the same Pathway as Amon's, giving the God of Deceit an unnecessary upper hand.
With one last use of Descorrer, just before the bestowed Quirk could run out, Luke came hurling out of parted space and crashed into the earth with a muffled thud.
His body rolled on the bare earth and came to a stop, Nyx flying mid-air casually.
Then, suddenly losing control over most of his body again, Luke got up, his eyes reflecting a dark mountainous region with the barest hint of civilization at the horizon.
Nyx flew down and landed on Luke's shoulder.
This isn't over, is it? Luke thought, turning his head to look at the bird. Amon… Does He not intend to let me go… ever?
Nyx turned her head toward him and smiled. "Guess."
Fuck! Luke cursed.
"Impressed?" Nyx asked. "How about you become my Blessed, instead? Believe me when I say it — that fellow is much crazier than I am. He must have warned you that I might not come after you so soon. Right? What if I told you that warning hadn't truly come from Him and had been… a lie? If that fellow could think clearly, He would have told you exactly the opposite."
Luke stared at the bird. "You… are lying."
Nyx lifted her right wing and again squeezed her eye. "Then, let me tell you another secret… about your… Conformity and Singularity."
The two looked at each other in silence.
Nyx opened her beak.
In the very next moment, a ROAR deafened their ears, a hypersonic, mushroom-headed nuclear missile landing right in front of them —
— sending them flying with a resounding BOOM!
