Chapter 345 345: A Magician's Preparation - Mushroom-nimi vs. Amon!
A Magician's strength lay in preparation.
Despite the Marauder Pathway's uncanny suitability to his character, Luke had always preferred the Seer Pathway. Not only because the former involved, and glorified, swindling, deceit, and questionable practices that surely led to greater strength, but also because… his late wife wouldn't have approved of him openly accepting it.
This shouldn't have mattered to anyone else, perhaps.
Luke, who had chased bonds, acceptance, and a sense of belonging for a decade in his previous life, while holed up at the Blue Site, had an extreme appreciation for Momo's ideals that had led her to accept him.
Mr. Fool had indeed guided Luke regarding Amon, considering the most likely path He would take in his world.
He had indeed said that Amon might not come after Luke with the intention of harming him, as He would be wary of Conformity and Singularity, especially given His weak state as an Avatar.
The best, and the worst, case scenario, as per Mr. Fool, had been Amon waiting it out until Luke reached Angel level and stealing all his powers, like fattening a pig before butchering it. In a way, the Eldritch God above the Gray Castle had suggested that Amon might even help him grow, indirectly, if not directly.
However, after coming back, Luke had gone through all the suggestions, guidance, and conversations once again, as per his habit of going through data, variables, and processes involved in an experiment many times over, being a scientist himself.
It was this habit that had led him to come up with the method of Decryption, Divination, and Deliberation to begin with.
And so, after going through the matters discussed above the Gray Castle over and over again, Luke had finally found an odd element.
It was less about the decryption itself and more about his belief that Mr. Fool never said something without a reason or some hidden repercussions and consequences attached to it.
There were two sentences said by Mr. Fool Himself, and not by other Tarot Club members, that had stood out like a sore thumb to Luke.
First, Mr. Fool had surmised that Amon wanted to make a deal with Luke.
Second, Mr. Fool had admitted that there was no telling what Amon would truly do.
In the end, the King of Yellow and Black had concluded that the best thing Luke could do in such a helpless scenario was to ignore Amon.
Luke, a Faceless, Cryptologist, and Astrologer, had taken those words to heart.
From the first and second sentences, the Quirk-Beyonder had concluded that Amon might truly visit him sooner or later, solidifying the deal or, perhaps, for reasons unknown. That would indeed suit the actions of a God of Deceit, making it look like a grand prank, especially when it would mean He had pulled one not only against a puny Luke, but also against His old rival — Mr. Fool!
However, there was also the matter of ignoring Amon.
Luke had always been taking Miss Justice's help to control his mind so as not to Decrypt matters related to Amon, Conformity, and Singularity continuously, given how easily it could lead him to lose control, or… worse.
Then, how could he go a step beyond and ignore Amon right away?!
And then, deliberating all that, Luke had found the grandest and most ingenious solution of his life.
He would… make himself forget about Amon's destined arrival.
Miss Justice had gasped, screaming why it hadn't been she who had recommended that idea. She had also added that, to make the matter more believable for Luke, she could make herself forget about all of it, too.
But Luke was a Magician.
So, naturally, he had created a full-fledged plan for the worst-case scenario.
First, it was given that Amon would never deeply parasitize him, even though doing so wouldn't attract Conformity and Singularity's gazes.
Second, if not him, then He would certainly parasitize Nyx. If He noticed that she was missing memories, then everything would go wrong from the very start, all plans coming to nothing.
So, Luke had decided to keep her out of the loop for this trickery, bestowing a Memory Erasure Quirk on another lifeform.
Before letting his memories go, though, Luke had… given some directions to none but Mushroom-nimi.
Despite the cyborg's queer personality, they did have a quality that could practically outmaneuver even Amon, if used at the right time.
After that order, Luke had made Melissa install a tiny GPS in his high-tech Hero Costume that he always wore, with Mushroom-nimi having the ability to access it directly from anywhere in the world.
Even if Amon knew how GPS worked after coming to this world, Luke doubted that He would go out of His way to remove it from his costume.
All this… all this deliberate planning… finally led to this moment, Mushroom-nimi pushing themselves to Hypersonic speed to reach the location where the signal was coming from, where… his Master was.
And now came the time to follow the command Dr. Blessed had given to the Apostle of Mr. Fool.
The BOOM of Mushroom-nimi's arrival hadn't even died when, pushing their reserves to the limit, they began… mutating.
"The Fool…"
"The Fool…"
"The Fool…"
… and on and on.
Hundreds of tiny mushrooms sprouted out of Mushroom-nimi's body, all capable of thinking independently, determined to do only one thing — pray to Mr. Fool! Scream!
The idea was not to call upon the God themselves, but let their Master hear the words, letting Luke's thoughts replicate the chants in his mind.
Nyx narrowed her eyes, flying high in the sky, and all the mushrooms lost their voices.
That was the trick, though.
The same weakness that left Mushroom-nimi with a childlike rationality became their greatest strength against Amon.
When hundreds of mushrooms lost their voices, the mutation only strengthened and intensified, and another thousand mushrooms exploded out of the cyborg, spanning the entire crater that had appeared because of their bombastic arrival.
If this continued, then Mushroom-nimi might not be able to return to their true self… ever.
They had just perfected their coffee brewing technique.
They had just begun exploring sneaker culture, putting an order for a custom shoe online… for their massive feet.
But — what of it?
For Master, they would do anything… because Master was not Master, but their friend.
Nyx's wing lashed out, and all the mushrooms, thousands in number, lost their voices, but…
A nuclear-whirring noise rattled the ears before hundreds of thousands of mushrooms, with terrible appearance, came flowing out of the cyborg like pus!
And all were saying the same words.
Amon tried to snatch all those voices, but… He was but a parasite of an Avatar.
In the next moment, from the clear sky, a magnificent bolt of lightning struck Nyx, and purged Him out…
… the rumble of victory echoing everywhere, along with Mushroom's mutated cries.
