Chapter 343 343: Losing Control - Luke's Worst Fear Arrives!
Miss Justice was screaming something in his mind.
Luke had little reasoning left even to hear her, though.
Forget about focusing his thoughts to Cogitate; he couldn't even control what he was thinking anymore.
It was a blur.
Like a sweet, peaceful darkness… approaching from afar.
Even though he couldn't think properly, Luke recognized this feeling as he had experienced it before.
He was dying.
He seemed to have gone beyond the point of no return. Much… much… much farther.
Nothing lay in front of him now other than a mutation that had no hope of regaining control.
Luke had faced Singularity and Conformity before.
He had felt the threat of losing control, but it hadn't been this sudden and at this scale.
Something was wrong.
Something about the Singularity and Conformity he met in the past—was wrong!
But it didn't matter any longer. As Luke's entire body folded onto itself, gaining fleshly tentacles, each the size of tiny worms, the last thought he had was to look at Nyx, hoping that she had survived.
And what he saw left him stunned… even while mutating.
Nyx, who had also lost control right after returning to her body, was now silently watching him, perched on the windowsill, with moonlight falling over her from the open window behind her.
That wasn't it, though.
She was behaving strangely.
Her right wing kept… going to her right eye as if she was… squeezing it.
"That fellow didn't warn you not to leave your body unattended?" Nyx cawed in her voice, but… the mannerism didn't belong to her.
Even as Luke lost all vision, his heart couldn't help but skip a beat.
Only now, even though he still couldn't hear her, did he know what Miss Justice had been screaming in his mind ever since he had returned to his body.
[RUN!]
"…" Luke tried to say something, but he didn't even have a mouth.
Nyx lifted her wing and squeezed her right eye again before lifting her left wing and making a snatching motion.
In the very next moment, all the madness that made Luke unable to think properly vanished.
Like a drowning man latching onto a twig, Luke lunged at the opportunity, Cogitating instantly.
Slowly, but surely, his mutated body began gaining form.
After a few moments, Luke was standing back again, his entire body drenched in sweat.
Luke opened his mouth to chant Mr. Fool's honorific name as if the words were programmed in his mind.
However, the moment that thought passed through his head, it vanished.
Luke's mind wasn't in a state to think properly anyway.
So, he scrunched his nose and frowned, and began Cogitating once more.
[Pray to Mr. Fool, Luke!] Miss Justice screamed inside his head. [Amon has parasitized Nyx!]
Luke's eyes again popped out.
In the next moment, he made a puzzled face, having forgotten what he was going to do.
The cycle repeated itself three more times, Miss Justice reminding him to pray to Mr. Fool, and Luke losing that thought entirely, before Nyx flew over and landed on his shoulder.
"I see…" Nyx said. "…That's something new."
This time, when Miss Justice screamed in Luke's mind, he didn't lose that thought.
But, he also failed to open his mouth as if his body didn't belong to him anymore.
"Let's go for a walk," Amon said through Nyx. "I need to attempt something."
Luke began walking by himself, approached the window, and climbed out of it, landing in the Midoriyas' backyard.
Then, together, Nyx and Luke looked up.
The large, full moon reflected in their pupils.
Then, with a rush of wind, the moon became bigger.
Luke, to his horror, realized that he and Nyx had just arrived hundreds of meters in the sky, wind blasting their faces so fast that it deafened their ears.
Then, with another motion of Nyx's wing, they disappeared again.
Again and again.
And again.
Luke could feel them… leaving atmosphere.
If this kept going on, both he and Nyx would end up dying.
Even he, a Sequence 6 Beyonder, stood no chance of surviving space. Much less needed to be said of Nyx, who had only recently advanced to Sequence 7 Magician.
To add to Luke's horror, Miss Justice had stopped screaming in his mind as well.
The System obviously had an upper hand over Amon's parasitism, as clearly shown by His inability to prevent the thought of praying to Mr. Fool from generating in Luke's mind. Perhaps, He might not even know about the System, only sensing an external helping hand in Luke's favor in all this.
Still, that didn't change the fact that the System couldn't make Luke open his mouth and speak against Amon's control.
All it could do was to bypass Amon's theft and let Luke maintain his rationality.
Even that wouldn't matter if he ended up dying, though.
Mr. Fool had guessed that Amon might not act against Luke in fear of Singularity and Conformity's retaliation.
That guess seemed to have been butchered only hours later.
But no matter how Luke thought about it, he couldn't find a single reason for Amon to just… kill him.
With a last stealing of distance, they finally left the breathable atmosphere.
"…"
Silence.
And they kept going, as if science had stopped existing for Luke and Nyx.
After who knew how many attempts, hours later, Luke came to a sudden stop, levitating in the middle of absolute nothingness.
In front of him lay nothing but darkness, the disc of the moon radiating, blinding the corner of his eyes to his right, making him squint.
With that, Luke realized he could blink and move his eyes by himself.
"That must be enough time for you to stabilize and regain your Spirituality," Nyx said, staring right ahead. "Let's see… how did it work again? Ah…"
Luke had no idea what was going on anymore.
In the next moment, though, he lifted his right hand and snapped, activating a Quirk.
And as he always knew instinctively which Quirk he activated, the moment Luke learned the nature of that Quirk, he also learned where Amon had brought them.
As Nyx sliced her wing at nothing next to him, parting space using Descorrer…
… Luke stared dead ahead — knowing what lay right in front of him.
The Boundary!
