Chapter 269 - 267: Understanding Righteousness [Part 2]
Elijah watched as Liam’s expression suddenly turned cold, quickly explaining, "Boss, President Owen came by yesterday when you weren’t here."
The President Owen Elijah referred to was none other than Charlotte Owen, and she also brought Lydia along.
Seeing the two women appear, Liam thought about the trouble they caused him. If not for Charlotte’s schemes, by now Maya would probably like him.
So, he glanced at them indifferently and continued to bury himself in work.
Charlotte noticed Liam’s cold attitude and slowly approached his desk, raised her right hand, and knocked on it, saying, "What’s with the attitude?"
Listening to Charlotte’s questioning, Liam took a deep breath, lifted his head, and seriously asked her, "Auntie, do you have any business?"
Clearly, he wasn’t happy about her arrival, especially since she brought a burden along.
Charlotte, hearing Liam’s question, swiftly pulled out the chair in front of his desk and sat down rudely, then immediately turned to Lydia, saying, "Little Rain, sit on the sofa."
Lydia followed Charlotte’s directions promptly, walked over to the sofa, and sat down respectfully.
Off to the side, Elijah watched the scene, sweating, thinking to himself, better not get caught in the crossfire, so he slowly stepped back, ready to leave.
At this moment, Charlotte stopped him, saying, "Elijah, stay. There’s something I need to discuss with you too."
Elijah heard Charlotte’s order and froze in place, not daring to move.
Inside the desk, Liam watched Charlotte’s arrogant demeanor, raised both hands to support the desk, rested his chin on them, and stared at her, wondering what tricks she planned to play.
As for why Charlotte was so angry, Liam surely knew. It was all because he had sabotaged Maya’s wedding to be with her.
From across the desk, Charlotte looked at Liam intently and solemnly announced, "From today on, Lydia is your assistant. Arrange as much work for her as possible."
Hearing Charlotte’s words, Elijah was stunned, internally cursing, damn, she’s here to steal my job, no wonder she kept me here.
In the midst of his frustration, Liam coolly said, "I don’t need an assistant."
This made Elijah feel relieved, thinking, the boss truly understands and appreciates him.
But Charlotte was not someone easily dismissed; she calmly said, "Owen Clan Group is so large, how can just Elijah as your personal assistant be enough? You can’t overwork him excessively; handle life-related tasks over to Lydia."
Yesterday, Charlotte saw the reports of Liam calling Maya his wife, which nearly exploded her anger. Disappointed, her once hopeful Hartley was defeated right after declaring his feelings. Moreover, through Maya’s encounters with Liam, she increasingly disliked Maya, seeking ways to break them apart.
So, Liam had just arrived at the company today and Charlotte brought Lydia to report.
Since Liam couldn’t forget Grace, keeping Lydia by his side might stir his sentimentality.
Lydia vs. Maya, she believed Lydia stood a better chance, as Grace was her aunt, and naturally, they shared more similarities.
Charlotte’s intentions were crystal clear to Liam; she merely wanted to separate him from Maya. But that was impossible, having used underhanded tactics to keep Maya beside him; he wouldn’t easily let her go.
Thus he firmly said, "Auntie, don’t bother, you won’t cause any fuss. I also don’t need Lydia as an assistant."
"Liam, could you have some conscience? Little Rain just came back from the United States, all her family is there, and she’s alone without support. How can you face Grace?" Charlotte saw Liam not giving her face, so she played the emotional card.
"Pick any job position except assistant. I’m not used to women hovering around my sight." Specifically, it meant women other than Maya.
"Other than being chairman’s assistant, no other position works. She’s a weak girl; without you, how do you protect her from mistreatment?" Charlotte refused to back down.
"Fine, fine, assistant it is. Elijah, take her and... train well." Facing Charlotte’s unreasonable trouble, Liam took the challenge.
She wanted to play tricks; he’d counter them without hesitation. Losing Hartley first, then Lydia next, he would see what other pieces she’d move.
Meanwhile, he also understood that with Lydia in the company, she would naturally be tough, but in terms of Lydia vs. Maya, Lydia seemed a few steps behind.
Although he didn’t understand Lydia well enough, he knew Maya’s ruthless nature better than anyone else.
In the office center, hearing Liam’s command, Elijah immediately turned to Lydia and said, "Assistant Jones, please follow me."
Hearing Elijah’s words, Charlotte promptly instructed, "Elijah, do arrange Lydia’s work properly."
Elijah understood Charlotte’s implication; Lydia wasn’t here to work but to seduce the boss, with work being merely an excuse to stay around Liam, hoping he’d notice her often.
However, judging by his assessment, the boss wouldn’t fall for it. His heart was entirely for the fifth lady, leaving no room for anyone else.
After Elijah and Lydia left, Liam responded indifferently with a chuckle, saying, "Auntie, is there a point? Do you think Lydia alone can conquer me?"
Listening to Liam’s taunt, Charlotte gave a cold smile, saying, "You fancy Maya, naturally Lydia holds greater advantages."
"Let me clarify, it’s not merely that I fancy Maya; encountering Maya is a rare chance." Before outsiders, Liam openly expressed his affection for Maya, yet before Maya herself, he was at a loss on how to confess.
"Oh, is that so? Then we’ll see about that. I want to watch what sorcery this Maya can perform." Saying this, Charlotte grabbed her bag angrily, walking toward the door with her head held high.
She had successfully planted Lydia in, so she’d continue creating discord between Liam and Maya.
Actually, she didn’t expect Lydia to conquer Maya completely; all she needed was for Lydia to stir trouble, creating misunderstandings between the two. Yet Charlotte underestimated Maya slightly.
At this moment, in Liam’s apartment, Maya lay lazily on the bed after breakfast, unmoving, like a fool.
Nowadays, she showed little interest in anything, apart from zoning out.
That’s when her phone rang. Maya lazily picked up the phone, seeing the name "Second Brother" only then climbing out of bed to answer the call.
On the other end, Kinsley asked concernedly, "Maya, are you alright?"
"I’m fine!"
"Do you have time at noon for lunch together?" With regards to the wedding, Kinsley felt it necessary for them to meet and clarify things.
"Yes!" Maya agreed without hesitation.
