Ranaway From Wedding, Fell into Tycoon's Love Trap

Chapter 1497: I Accidentally Bit My Tongue

Thomas Fisher unconsciously tightened his grip on Alice Turner’s hand, and his palm suddenly grew damp.

Her fingers interlaced with his, she felt it immediately. It wasn’t just the pressure of his grip and the dampness of his palm—she could also feel the tension in his heart.

Five years ago she suddenly left without a word; just how big an impact had that had on him? The shadow it left in his heart must be huge, right?

Alice squeezed Thomas’s hand back hard and glanced at him. Only then did she slowly look at Isla Lane. "I’m not leaving, I—hiss..."

The sudden stab of pain from her hand made her cry out before she could stop herself.

Hearing Alice’s strange little cry, the four people who didn’t know what was going on all showed puzzled expressions.

With four pairs of eyes on her, Alice’s cheeks actually grew a little hot. She gave an awkward smile and started making up a random explanation for her abnormal reaction just now. "I accidentally bit my tongue."

As she said this, she lightly scratched the back of Thomas’s hand with her index finger, to show her displeasure at him making her embarrass herself just now.

"I thought something was wrong—you gave me a fright." Hearing Alice say she’d just accidentally bitten her tongue while talking, Sophia Wood let out a breath of relief.

Aside from Sophia, the other three were skeptical about Alice’s explanation—especially Isla Lane and Charlotte Shaw. Mother and daughter simply didn’t believe that Alice had bitten her tongue.

Isla thought that Alice definitely just didn’t want to answer her question, and had deliberately made that strange noise just now as an excuse to dodge it.

Charlotte’s doubts about Alice went in a completely different direction than Isla’s. In her heart, she guessed that that odd little cry Alice had just made definitely had something to do with Thomas.

Christopher Turner didn’t believe Alice’s explanation because he’d seen the apologetic little look Thomas had sent her. He had every reason to be convinced that her abnormal reaction was closely tied to Thomas.

"Stop talking and just focus on eating."

Christopher looked around the table. As he spoke, his gaze happened to land on Isla, and for a split second it turned a little colder, though he quickly shifted his eyes away.

Once those words left his mouth, Thomas’s eyes flickered. He tilted his head to glance at Christopher sitting at the head of the table, his face full of gratitude toward his father-in-law.

Isla’s mind was entirely on Alice and Benjamin Shaw getting back together; as for other people and other matters, she had neither the energy nor the interest to pay attention.

But Charlotte was paying attention. The moment Christopher spoke, she could hear that his words were meant for her mother.

As for why he’d say that, she was very clear in her heart, but constrained by seniority, she couldn’t very well say anything.

Sophia and Alice also heard the subtext in Christopher’s words. Mother and daughter both kept silent, picked up their chopsticks, and quietly continued eating.

Isla had originally had a lot more to say, but seeing everyone eating in silence, she couldn’t bring herself to disturb their meal.

She glanced at the people eating in earnest, then picked up her own chopsticks as well, absentmindedly picking at the dishes.

Because of Alice’s "biting her tongue" incident just now, the atmosphere at the table grew unusually quiet—so quiet it made people feel awkward.

Suddenly, a burst of ringtone rang out, shattering the stifling silence.
