Chapter 266: You can laugh
In the next moment, Veronica unlocked her phone and passed it to Diana.
Diana glanced at her questioningly before peering at the phone in her hand.
The picture of a beautiful blonde greeted her view.
Only the side profile of the woman was shown in the picture and it was highlighted by the shadows of the setting sun. She had mid-length wavy blonde hair and since she was gazing upwards, one could see clear eyes shining under the glow of the setting sun.
While Diana glanced at the picture in stunned silence, Veronica opened her mouth to speak, ’’When I heard that Dr. Warner has an assistant, I felt rather down. The position I had my eyes on for so long was gone just like that. I went there and saw you, and the first person I thought of was my sister. You looked similar; hair, makeup, and clothing. But I passed it off as a coincidence,’’ Yet, she disliked Diana to some point after discovering that she was a business graduate who did not qualify to get that job in the first place.
’’But after Dr. Warner stood up for you, I felt like something was wrong. And then he came to warn me and...’’
’’He did what?" Diana snapped out of her reverie and shifted her attention from Maxim’s ex-girlfriend’s picture as she looked at Veronica.
Veronica’s lips parted, as soon as she realized that she said something she should not have. But then she braced herself with a deep sigh and muttered, ’’That day when I grabbed your hand in the hospital hallway... I know it was unsolicited and it’s too late for this but I still want to apologise. I am sorry,’’ At that time, she had done it out of frustration but after she saw Diana’s intense reaction, even she felt that something was wrong.
Diana shrugged, ’’It’s not your fault,’’ her reaction was purely psychological and since Veronica had never repeated her actions, she was not going to play petty and hold old grudges.
’’After that incident, I was warned by Dr. Warner for the first time.’’
Diana’s lips twitched, ’’First time?’’ There was more?
