Chapter 302: A change of plans
Cedric raced like his life depended on it; if not for the fact that his eyes were on him, he would have teleported to a nearby location since he didn’t know exactly where the carriage crashed. Unfortunately, he had to compromise; all he could do was hope he wasn’t late.
"Hold on," he wished and hoped everything would be fine. Midnight’s hooves struck the ground as it ran faster than it had before; the other knights could barely keep up with the horse’s speed, and they fell a bit behind.
As soon as he heard of the assassination Cedric left the square. He didn’t care; nothing mattered. Why was this happening now? She wasn’t the sorcerer’s target and Eleanor’s goal was to kill her at the court.
From a distance, he could see smoke ahead in the woods rising from the flames. He glanced at the knights. They were holding him back; he hated this feeling, the thought of why he had to hide himself from his men.
"You don’t have a choice," Cedric said, he wasn’t fast enough. So he pulled a stunt, changing Midnight’s route into the woods. The knights didn’t expect the move, and they tried to follow, but Cedric seemed to have disappeared into the woods.
"Where did he go?" One asked, Elias, who wasn’t far off and had an idea of what happened, intervened. "Let’s head for the flames." He commanded with no room for explanation. The knights had no choice but to obey, swallowing their curiosity and continuing on their initial course towards the flames.
Close to the flames, Cedric materialized with midnight. The horse was a bit startled by his master’s abilities. "Settle down, we don’t have a moment to spare." He calmed the horse as he charged for the flames while also heightening his sense to find any sign of her.
From a distance, he could hear swords clashing, and he headed in the direction.
Axel was still fighting against the assassins. A horse neigh rang, and the assassins immediately sensed Cedric’s presence. No words were spoken, and they immediately retreated. The rest were already long gone; they only stayed behind to give the boat enough time to get to sea.
