Chapter 413: Pagast, Destruction Essence
It had happened fast, Pagast had merely begun to talk about Alora’s mother when she lashed out.
If anyone who had known Alora for some time were here, they would be surprised, this was unlike Alora to suddenly lose her cool all of a sudden.
Inside the meeting hall, Pagast casually raised his hand which was coated in ice to block the ice blade that Alora sent his way.
Pagast, tall and proud, stood with me arm behind his back. His white fur cloak breezed back from the shockwave of Alora’s attack.
He had a calm smile on his face, "I know it hurts you to hear this but you need to know.
You are becoming just like her!"
"Shut up!" Alora waved her hand, sending a bigger ice wave and freezing the entire hall at once.
Pagast merely waved his hand, cancelling the attack without effort. Not only was he stronger than her, but he was also more experienced.
Shawty and the other Lion Queens who were observing all these couldn’t help but reevaluate Alora.
They didn’t know Alora could react to words like this.
Then again, this was her father, he knew how to press all her buttons. Others could talk about Alora’s mother and she wouldn’t necessarily care.
But the way Pagast spoke, the disdain and contempt that was laced in his voice as if he was talking about a disease. It triggered painful memories in Alora’s mind.
The truth was that Alora was actually nothing like her mother, at least, not in personality.
Alora’s mother had been an Air Lioness, this was one of the reasons she had been close to Chloe in the first place.
Alora’s mother was jovial, free-spirited, and pretty much like every other stereotype Air Lioness. She didn’t like being tied down to one place for too long.
Air Lionesses didn’t do well under micromanaging authority figures like Pagast who was the literal definition of a control freak.
Alora’s mother and Pagast had a lot of issues concerning her going out and the type of people she interacted with.
Pagast wanted her isolated and only going out of his sight only when he gave her permission. He monitored everything she did and didn’t allow her to do anything unless he gave his consent.
And one peculiar thing with control freaks like Pagast was that the more people tried to resist, the harder they tried to control.
At one time, Alora’s mother had attempted to travel out outside heaven again to explore. This time, she took Alora with her, trying to show her daughter other things beyond Pagast’s control.
But Alora’s mother did not have a heavenly beacon back then, so she could only ask another lion king to help her out.
The lion king helped her leave heaven, unfortunately, he also told Pagast about it during a casual conversation.
Pagast had been livid.
And then, he did something that remained trapped in Alora’s mind forever.
Alora, as young as she was back then, watched helplessly as her mother’s wings and throat were ripped out by Pagast.
The warm blood spilled from the wings and splashed on Alora’s white body red. She had been frozen.
Her mother died in front of her and the killer was her father. She was at an age where all cubs still needed their mother for guidance and care.
That’s why it was so traumatic for her. Old enough to remember everything but too young to fend for herself without a mother.
Alora lost her mother very early on. And the same person who killed her was the same person to raise her up.
This memory had been buried deep and Alora didn’t want to remember it as it was followed by a strong sense of loss, weakness, and pain.
Alora had developed herself to be cold, aloof, and distant, somewhat avoidant. This was her natural defense mechanism to ensure no one ever hurt her or made her feel vulnerable.
There were a whole lot of complexities surrounding her elite narcissism.
Unfortunately, this mental defense mechanism was like paper to Pagast.
With a few words, he already got Alora riled up and ready to fight.
Yet, there was still that hesitant look in her eyes, as if she was not sure if she should be attacking her father.
Pagast stretched out his hand, ignoring all the frost and coldness surrounding them.
"Come with me, come back home," Pagast said, stunning Alora.
///////
Kael had resumed his position on top of his pillow throne in the Command Chamber.
Many lions were busy compiling data or monitoring the activities of the other chamber worlds.
Most of the creatures in the arkship were not aware of what was happening outside. They didn’t know that there was a hunt for a Primordial Wolf or that the arkship was now parked inside a gas planet.
There was no need for them to know. All they had to do was live their lives in ignorance like they had done in Eridoria.
The only difference was that they were living in chamber worlds, not a planet.
At this time, N’bayé and the others were already on their way to Planet Kareem and would soon make first contact with a foreign civilization.
Just in case there was something that they did not expect, Kael was prepared to activate Conqueror Mode Avatar or fly the arkship there in an instant.
While Kael was browsing through his own holographic screens and monitoring the flamingo caste in their chamber world.
...
Kael frowned.
He looked up from the screens, confusion coloring his face.
He didn’t know why but he suddenly felt sick. It wasn’t like there was a problem with his body, but it felt like something was trying to gnaw in his mind and existence.
At the same time, it felt like that thing was not directly trying to harm him, but its presence was causing him discomfort.
’The Lion System...’ Kael thought. That was where the feeling was coming from.
A long golden screen flashed in front of Kael, a derived list of all the Lion identity marks linked to the Lion System.
It was a long list, almost four hundred and fifty million. Each of them served as nodes for the transfer and redistribution of Conquering that was being used to power the system.
Chloe had mentioned that the entire population of the Lion race was more or less one trillion. This four hundred and fifty million identity marks was still far even though it was a lot.
Drop by drop, little by little, they were contributing to Kael’s rising power.
It was a pity that Kael’s was limited by tier evolution and couldn’t use all that Conquering Essence to brute force his way into a high-level being without killing himself in the process.
Kael ignored his temptations and scrolled down until he found what he was looking for. The source of his discomfort.
It was an identity mark that belonged to Pagast.
’Isn’t this Alora’s father?’ Kael thought.
After digging deeper, Kael realized that the source of his discomfort was this identity mark.
And it was because there was a foreign power sitting quietly in the Lion System.
This foreign power would have remained completely undetectable if not that Pagast seems to be using it, or about to.
’Isn’t this destruction essence? Why does Pagast have destruction essence?’ Kael’s suspicion grew.
Kael knew what Destruction Essence was and how it looked due to Derylia and Noel’s memories.
Without hesitation, he attempted to take over Pagast’s body with Conqueror Mode Avatar but it didn’t work.
The Destruction Essence neutralized any extra Conquering Essence that was about to infiltrate Pagast’s body.
This was serious. The Conqueror Mode Avatar was Kael’s way of commanding power without being there personally and it was a power he was still refining.
It allowed him to take over the body of any single lion in the system as long as they were not too powerful or resisted him.
Technically, even if they could, a tier 6 lion should not be able to resist Kael’s Conqueror Mode Avatar so easily the way Pagast just did.
That there was something that could block Kael’s power and control unnerved and irritated him.
He immediately went to work.
...
Kael: Where is Pagast right now?
...
There was a pause as Exalon took a few seconds to answer.
...
Exalon: Hehehe, you’ve heard of the rumor too?
Kael: What rumor?
Exalon: You haven’t? Pagast has been posturing in front of the Fanged Flower Alliance for one whole year, claiming that he wouldn’t leave until he sees his daughter.
Kael: Really? Is he still there?
Exalon: No, I heard Alora allowed him to enter a while ago. Why are you asking? Do you want me to keep tabs on what happens?
Kael: So he’s with Alora right now?
Exalon: He should be.
...
Kael immediately ended the chat with Exalon and activated Conqueror Mode Avatar again.
This time, he directed the power to Alora’s identity mark. And since he had done this before when he helped her, he was familiar with it.
There was almost no resistance at all, as if Alora didn’t even try to acknowledge the power that was being infused into her body.
Kael sat up straight as his consciousness was split with a part flowing through the lion system and blending in with Alora.
//////
Pagast had his hand outstretched, and a faint reddish-purple hue flashed above his palm. He wore a kind and gentle fatherly smile that made Alora feel deeply insecure.
All of a sudden, Aloea felt that familiar sensation of supreme power entering her body. All her abilities were enhanced and her tier rose to the next level.
She felt it, a power that made her feel as though her father was nothing but an ant before her.
She didn’t resist.
Pagast frowned, feeling the change in aura from his daughter.
Within that instant, that cold and frustrated expression disappeared from Alora’s face. A golden glint flashed in her eyes as her demeanor became more regal and detached.
Pagast felt the oppressiveness, it was like he was standing before the one true King of Kings, not his daughter..
"Pagast..." Kael spoke.
