Chapter 11: Dilemma
Eryx slammed his fist against the front seat, his frustration boiling over. The tension from the hospital room had followed him, clinging to him like a shadow. His jaw tightened as he exhaled sharply, trying to rein in his emotions.
Callum glanced at him through the rearview mirror but wisely kept his mouth shut. The silence in the car was thick, broken only by the low hum of the engine.
"Find her," Eryx muttered, his voice tight with restraint.
Callum gulped and took a deep breath before finally speaking. "Sir, I actually asked our people to find Miss Hayes earlier. Unfortunately, the flower shop was destroyed just a few minutes before we arrived."
"What do you mean?" Eryx frowned. "Destroyed?"
"I mean... it was burned down by someone," Callum clarified. "I confirmed that Miss Hayes wasn't there at the time. She had been living at the shop for the past few years, so she has nowhere else to go back to. There's very little information about her... perhaps she has been taking extra precautions to avoid being found?"
Eryx instantly glared at him through the rearview mirror. "Are you implying that she was hiding from me?"
Callum stiffened under Eryx's glare and quickly shook his head. "No, sir, that's not what I meant," he said carefully. "I'm just saying... She made sure to leave no trail behind. It's like she knew someone would come looking for her."
Eryx scoffed, his fingers tapping impatiently against the leather seat. "She knew someone would come looking for her, yet refused to leave that place?"
Callum hesitated before nodding. "Well... as you remember, the shop was the only thing her mother left behind. To protect it, she even agreed to marry you."
Eryx's expression darkened, "And now that shop is gone," he muttered. "So tell me, Callum, where would she go next?"
