Chapter 338 - Nullifying powers
Yunfeng jerked his hand backward just in time.
The girl’s teeth snapped shut where his fingers had been a second earlier, and he stumbled back several steps, staring at her in disbelief. The strange feeling from before suddenly made sense. His electricity had not simply failed. It had been erased the moment it came close to her.
"She nullifies powers," Yunfeng said, his voice tight with realization.
The little girl didn’t give him time to explain further. She lunged again, moving far faster than her small body should have been capable of. Yunfeng tried to activate his power once more, but nothing happened. The blue energy that usually answered him immediately was completely absent, leaving him dangerously exposed.
"Yunfeng!"
Zei’s voice came from behind him.
Before the girl’s teeth could reach him, everything suddenly stopped.
The zombies froze in the middle of their movements. Dust hung motionless in the air, and even the girl’s outstretched body became completely still.
Zei had activated his power.
"Move!" Zei shouted, though his own body was already beginning to tremble from the strain.
Yunfeng didn’t waste the opportunity. He twisted away from the girl’s attack and put several meters between them, his heart pounding from how close he had come to being bitten.
"Nice timing," Yunfeng muttered.
"Compliment me later!"
Yunfeng turned back toward the girl.
Something was wrong.
She was moving.
Slowly at first, but she was moving.
While everything else remained frozen around her, the little zombie’s fingers twitched. Her head turned slightly, and her eyes followed Yunfeng as though Zei’s power had barely affected her at all.
Yunfeng’s expression hardened.
"She can still move?"
"Fuck!" Zei gritted out.
The girl suddenly broke through the frozen space completely and rushed toward Yunfeng.
He immediately jumped backward.
Her teeth snapped together inches from his arm.
Yunfeng stumbled away, barely maintaining his balance as she turned and came after him again. There was something terrifying about the way she moved. She didn’t hesitate, didn’t tire, and didn’t seem bothered by the fact that time itself had been stopped around her.
Zei’s face paled. "don’t let her close. Fuck my powers... its..."
The frozen world suddenly began moving again.
Zei staggered backward, breathing heavily as the strain caught up with him. He had reached his limit.
"I can’t stop time," he said between breaths. "Is she absorbing our powers?"
The moment the zombies around them started moving again, chaos erupted.
Thousands of undead creatures suddenly began rushing forward. They seemed to have lost whatever order had controlled them before, and without the little girl directing their movements, they attacked wildly from every direction. Several charged toward Zei at once, forcing him to retreat while others came at him from the side.
"Zei!" Yunfeng shouted.
"Shit!" Zei raised his gun and fired, but there were too many. He couldn’t use his power, and his weapon alone wasn’t enough to keep them back.
Jai immediately stepped in. "Get away from him!"
He slammed both hands toward the ground.
The earth beneath the zombies collapsed.
One after another, the undead sank into the ground as Jai forced the soil upward around them. He kept pushing his power farther, trapping entire groups beneath the earth before they could reach Zei.
But there were simply too many.
Jai’s breathing became heavier.
Blood suddenly dripped from his nose.
He wiped it away with the back of his hand and continued.
"Come on..."
More zombies rushed toward them.
Jai gritted his teeth and pushed harder.
The ground shook violently as another wave disappeared beneath the earth. His nose began bleeding more heavily, the blood running over his lips and down his chin, but he refused to stop.
Yunfeng glanced at him and then at Zei.
Neither of them could use their powers properly anymore.
And his own power still hadn’t returned.
His white hair, which had been glowing beneath the blue energy only moments ago, had already turned completely black again.
Yunfeng slowly clenched his fists. They couldn’t defeat this zombie by relying on their abilities.
The realization was unpleasant, but there was no time to complain about it.
He looked toward Zei. "Can you stop time one more time?"
Zei looked at the little girl, then back at Yunfeng. "then keep her away.. don’t let her close to me."
He took a deep breath and forced his exhausted body to activate his power once more.
Time stopped again.
The zombies froze. The dust hanging in the air became motionless.
Even Jai stood completely still with blood running down his face.
But the little girl continued moving.
Yunfeng watched her carefully. This time, he didn’t have his enhanced speed nor his electric powers or his flames...
The girl lunged.
He twisted sideways, narrowly avoiding her teeth.
She immediately turned and attacked again.
He ducked beneath her arm and stumbled backward as her fingers scraped against his clothes.
Too close for his comfort.
The little girl attacked again and again, moving with frightening speed despite her small body. Yunfeng barely managed to avoid each strike, his heart pounding as he realized how difficult it was to fight something that didn’t hesitate for even a second.
She lunged toward his shoulder.
Yunfeng ducked, rolled across the ground, and quickly got back on his feet.
He was beginning to notice something. Her attacks were fast, but they weren’t random. She kept repeating the same movement again and again.
First, she went low. Always toward his left leg. Then she would immediately changed direction and attacked upward toward his upper body.
Yunfeng watched her carefully.
The girl rushed at him again.
He moved his left leg back and avoided her first strike.
She immediately changed direction.
Just as he expected.
She came upward.
Yunfeng twisted away, eyes narrowed. His hand clenched the dagger he had stashed behind his back.
There. When she was close to his shoulders, he quickly caught her arm, and with his other hand, he drove the blade straight upward beneath her jaw.
The weapon pierced deeply.
The little girl’s blank eyes widened and her body jerked.
Yunfeng stared at her, breathing hard.
For one second, neither of them moved.
Then, at that exact moment, Zei’s power finally stopped.
Time resumed.
The frozen world came crashing back to life all at once.
And Yunfeng stood there with the blade buried beneath the little zombie’s jaw.
