Pregnant During An Apocalypse [BL]

Chapter 337 - The controller and her puppets

The three of them had barely stepped away from the villa when a deep, guttural growl suddenly rolled through the street. Yunfeng stopped in his tracks, his expression changing almost immediately. Jai and Zei also turned toward the sound, their earlier conversation forgotten as they stared down the curved road ahead of them. At first, there was nothing to see, but then the pavement beneath their feet began to tremble with the weight of approaching footsteps.

Zei slowly lowered the gun from his shoulder. "Please tell me that’s not what I think it is."

"If you’re thinking it’s a very large group of zombies," Jai said, narrowing his eyes at the distant street, "then you’re unfortunately correct."

The first few zombies appeared around the bend.

Then dozens followed.

Then hundreds.

Within moments, the entire road ahead of them was filled with undead bodies, stretching so far into the distance that Yunfeng couldn’t even see the end of the horde. There had to be thousands of them, yet strangely enough, none of them were running. They weren’t stumbling over one another or wandering aimlessly as normal zombies did. Instead, they moved together in an unnaturally orderly formation, their footsteps falling almost in rhythm as they slowly approached.

Not a single zombie strayed from the group.

Even when one bumped into another, it immediately corrected its direction and continued forward as though it had been given a specific path to follow.

Jai’s expression slowly became serious.

"They’re doing it again."

Zei glanced at him. "You noticed that too wow...?"

Jai gave him a flat look. "Do you want me to bury you? Because I can do it right now..."

"Guys, stop it!" Yunfeng snapped.

His attention remained fixed on the approaching horde. There was something deeply unsettling about the way they moved. He had fought enough zombies to know how they behaved. These creatures should have been charging toward them the moment they caught their scent, yet instead they continued walking in perfect formation, almost as though they were waiting for something.

"controlled by something for sure," Yunfeng said quietly.

The joking disappeared from Jai and Zei’s faces.

Zei looked at the horde again. "That’s... considerably worse than them simply being stupid."

Jai nodded slowly. "Much worse."

The horde suddenly stopped.

Every single zombie came to a halt at almost the exact same moment.

The silence that followed was even more disturbing than the growling had been. Thousands of dead creatures stood motionless in the middle of the street, their pale faces turned toward Yunfeng and the others.

Then, without warning, the zombies at the front began moving sideways.

The entire horde slowly parted down the middle, creating a clear path through their bodies.

Yunfeng’s eyes narrowed as he watched. "What are they doing?"

No one answered.

A small sound came from somewhere within the opening.

It was the sound of little shoes touching the pavement.

Tap.. tap..tap..

A child slowly walked out from between the zombies.

She couldn’t have been more than ten years old.

The little girl was wearing a pink dress that had once probably been pretty, though it was now covered in dirt and dark stains. In one hand, she held a small teddy bear, its fur equally filthy and matted from whatever it had been dragged through. Her face was frighteningly pale, completely drained of the warmth and color that should have been present in a living child.

But it was the wound on her neck that caught their attention.

A huge bite mark had torn through the side of her neck, with dried blood surrounding the wound and staining the collar of her dress.

She stopped several meters away and simply stared at them. Her empty eyes were staring at them intently.

Jai’s expression slowly changed as realization dawned on him. "She’s the one."

Zei frowned. "The one what?"

"The one controlling them."

Yunfeng didn’t answer, but he had already reached the same conclusion.

The thousands of zombies hadn’t gathered around the girl by coincidence. They hadn’t simply happened to move aside for her.

They were following her.

Protecting her.

Waiting for her command.

The little girl tilted her head slightly, still holding her teddy bear in one hand. Behind her, thousands of zombies remained perfectly still.

Zei swallowed. "Fuck, that’s just a kid...."

"Not anymore," Yunfeng said quietly. His gaze remained fixed on the child. "She may look like one, but she’s a zombie."

Before either of them could say anything else, the little girl’s fingers tightened around the teddy bear.

Several zombies immediately stepped forward.

Yunfeng’s attention snapped toward them. "Get back."

He looked over his shoulder toward the villa they had just left. The women and children were still inside. If those thousands of zombies suddenly charged, the three of them would never be able to fight them while also protecting the survivors.

They could kill hundreds. But not this many of them all at once. Some of them might slip though and hurt the kids hiding in the house behind them..

"We can’t let them reach the villa," Gritting his teeth Yunfeng said. "If they break through, those people are dead."

Jai’s eyes hardened. "Then I’ll stop them."

"Conserve your energy for now. When they get close burry them." Yunfeng ignored him.

The first wave of zombies suddenly surged forward.

The entire street erupted into chaos.

Yunfeng moved instantly, blue electricity exploding around his body as he charged toward them. His eyes lit up with a brilliant blue glow, and his white hair lifted around his face as electric energy raced through every part of him. The first zombie leapt toward him, but Yunfeng caught it before it could reach him. The moment his hand touched its body, electricity tore through its brain, and the creature collapsed at his feet.

Another rushed from the side.

Yunfeng twisted around and struck it with his palm.

It flew backward, crashing into several others.

More came.

Far too many.

Jai slammed his hand against the ground, and the earth beneath a group of zombies suddenly liquefied. Several of them sank into the soil up to their chests before he violently pulled the ground upward, throwing their bodies aside.

"That’s one hundred!" Zei shouted from behind them as he fired several shots in quick succession.

Jai glanced at him. "You’re counting?"

"I need something to keep me entertained!"

"You’re shooting zombies!"

"Exactly! It’s repetitive!"

Jai couldn’t help laughing despite the situation. "You’re unbelievable!"

Yunfeng heard them arguing behind him and shook his head while continuing to fight. "Could you two stop talking and concentrate?"

"We ARE concentrating!" Zei shouted.

Another group of zombies rushed toward the villa.

Zei immediately turned and fired, dropping several before they could get close.

Jai manipulated the ground beneath the rest, trapping them before they could advance.

Still, the horde kept coming.

And every time Yunfeng tried to move toward the little girl, several zombies immediately threw themselves in front of him.

His expression darkened as he blasted another group away with a surge of electricity.

"So that’s your game."

The little girl remained where she was, watching him.

She simply stood there with her teddy bear hanging from her hand while the zombies sacrificed themselves to keep him away from her.

Yunfeng destroyed another group and pushed farther forward.

Then another group came.

He destroyed those too.

His body was soon covered in blood and grime, and his breathing became heavier, but he refused to stop. He had to reach her. As long as she remained alive—or whatever remained of her was still functioning—the thousands of zombies would continue moving according to her will.

Finally, after tearing through another group of zombies, Yunfeng broke through the last line protecting her.

He landed several steps away from the little girl.

For the first time, they were standing face-to-face.

She looked even smaller up close.

Her pink dress hung loosely from her thin body, and the teddy bear in her hand was almost the same size as her forearm. For one brief moment, Yunfeng’s heart tightened.

She was just a child.

Yunfeng’s hand slowly tightened into a fist.

But this wasn’t just a little girl he was looking at anymore.

Whatever remained of her had become something dangerous. Something that could control thousands of zombies and hunt people.

Yunfeng took a slow breath.

"I’m sorry."

The girl’s empty eyes remained fixed on him.

Yunfeng raised his hand.

Blue electricity began gathering around his fingers, bright enough to illuminate the pale features of her face. He only needed one attack. He could make it quick. He wouldn’t let her suffer.

The electricity surged toward her like a claw flashing on her pale face when something strange happened.

The moment the blue energy came within inches of the girl’s body, it suddenly vanished.

It simply just.... disappeared.

Yunfeng froze.

His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at his hand.

"What...?"

His power had never done that before.

The girl suddenly moved.

Her head snapped upward, and her mouth opened far wider than any human’s should have been able to.

Yunfeng’s eyes widened.

He didn’t even have time to react before the little girl lunged straight toward his outstretched hand.
