Naval Gacha System: It's Time To Monopolize The Seven Seas!

Chapter 322 - 322: | 322 | The Great War Part 10: Defensive Breakthrough

In the borderlands of the southern continental region and the central continental region, an underground imperial fortress coordinated the vast defensive networks of the imperial army. It was amongst the many of the League of Humanity's defensive arrays, yet it was amongst the most important.

After all, the southern continental region was under the complete control of the United World Government. Unlike the skirmishes in the neighboring continental regions, the borderlands between the south and center was hell incarnate.

Craters riddled thousands of kilometers as hills of corpses lay sprawled throughout the wasteland. Ashes burned asunder, the vitality of the world sucked dry by the torrent of war. It was a nightmare.

Unfortunately for the underground imperial fortress, their circumstance was far from great. The withdrawal of the defending imperial regiments caused the collapse of the vanguard defensive networks. In mere moments, the battlefield stretched hundreds of kilometers into the central continental region.

"Sir! We have lost contact with the 1101st Imperial Regiment!"

"1202nd Imperial Regiment was annihilated!"

"2404th Imperial Regiment lost!"

Reports echoed throughout the command room of the underground imperial fortress. One after another, hundreds of thousands of imperial soldiers were being massacred through the bombardment of the United Military.

One flash of light was enough to exterminate thousands of people. Throughout the southern battlefield, hundreds of such lights could be seen flashing across the heavens and the earth.

"Damn it!" The Imperial Marshal slammed his arms against the wooden table, shattering it into pieces. His gray hair seemed to have lost its color as a weary expression etched itself onto his aged face. The collapse of the vanguard defensive network was to be expected.

But the result of the collapse brought about the death of hundreds of thousands. For what exactly? They died turning their back against their enemies, withdrawing like ants making way for the elephant's foot. Were they truly insects in comparison to the United World Government?

"Any news from the Albion Empire?" The Imperial Marshal asked a nearby officer, who nodded in agreement and handed him the new orders. It was to form another defensive network and ensure that the strategic ships would be halted from their advance.

"These fools!" The old man punched the wall, unfeeling of the blood dripping from his fist. Those fools from the capital could only command without even thinking about the situation.

There should have never been a withdrawal of the vanguard defensive network to begin with. The stability of the front was delicate. The United World Government could break through at any moment. Sadly, these fools wanted their southern cities to be protected from the lone strategic ships that managed to pierce through the defensive line.

The mere thought alone made the veins on his forehead pop out.

The Imperial Marshal forced himself to calm down. He took a deep breath, taking air in and out of his lungs. After soothing himself, he questioned a nearby officer. "Has the main defensive network been reinforced?"

"The main defensive network has been reinforced, Sir. Some of the withdrawal imperial regiments has reached their respective rendezvous."

Hearing the words of the officer, the Imperial Marshal sighed to himself and wanted to drink rum. The battlefield was too depressing. Stopping the besieging United World Government costed the League of Humanity innumerable lives. Some soldiers even began entertaining the thoughts of surrendering.

Meanwhile...

As the Imperial Marshal wallow in despair and disappointment, the cries and screams of imperial soldiers echoed throughout the borderlands. The imperial regiment commander who sounded the first withdrawal could only watch as his men became nothing more than a splatter of blood.

"BOOM!"

The imperial regiment commander was forcefully dragged into the bunker by his officers. Ashes and dust covered their faces as the ground above them shook with incredible force.

"Sir, we must rendezvous with the main defensive network!" An officer uttered, his arms shaking from terror. Horrified expressions were splattered on everyone's faces after seeing such gruesome scenes outside.

"It's already too late... The United World Government is above us. The moment we leave this bunker, we would become no different than a blasted crater. We stand no chance against them." Another officer remarked, holding tightly the severed hand of his brother.

Silence permeated through the underground bunker as the officers and the last surviving soldiers of the imperial regiment waited for the next order of their commander.

The imperial regiment commander clenched his fist, blood dripping from his nails as he roared in anger. "Those animals from the United World Government shall pay!" But his wrath faded a couple of seconds later as he had the declared the same thing for over a hundred times these past months.

Even their secret weapon wasn't enough against the strategic ships of the United World Government, what do they meat bags going to do against a flying behemoth?

"Commander!" A communication operator who tapped into their communication array called out. His voice attracted the attention of everyone, curious about what he had discovered. Was it a new order? The imperial regiment commander couldn't help but frown at the thought.

"What is it?" He questioned the communication operator, gazing at him with scrutiny. He hoped it wouldn't be another impossible order from the top. He could barely keep the lives of his men intact within this underground bunker.

"The League of Humanity and the Magus Tower has sent reinforcements... Our empire is finally making a move!" The communication operator reported, exhilaration could be heard from his voice. It was their hope against this despairing nightmare.

"Who is making a move exactly?" The imperial regiment commander's expression changed, realizing that the war was about to become much more turbulent than ever before.

The nearby officers also tapped into their conversation, curious about what or who their reinforcements was. A glint of excitement left the once dulled eyes of the communication operator as the edges of his lips tugged into a subtle smile.

He looked at his comrades and reported.

"Our Sovereign, the eternal monarch of the Albion Empire!"
