Chapter 309: His Threat (7)
Bernard Taylor is also a doctor, a professional who needs to be on call twenty-four hours a day, so the moments he gets to rest are precious and should be seized.
She didn’t want to disturb his rest either. After all, while she detested him, patients found him agreeable, and his medical skills were indeed admirable. Even if she didn’t like him as a person, she had to admit that for someone his age, such skills were truly commendable.
"It’s the same question again. Did my mum have a talk with you before you left?" Bernard was aware that his mum had seen Avery; his mother confessed it. But he was to hear this from Avery herself.
When he found out years ago that Avery had met his mother before leaving, he was furious, shocked and full of anger. Ever since a terrible irreparable incident happened in his life, Bernard’s temperament had changed. He had become colder, quieter, and more reserved.
His emotions and desires, it seemed, had vanished with the death of that person, as if that person had taken away all of Bernard’s vitality. For many years, Bernard had stooped to melancholy, and suddenly, he began laughing again. But no one knew precisely when this change took place.
Lady Taylor was thrilled, thinking that finally, the right person had entered Bernard’s life to revive him. But to her surprise, this person turned to be Avery, a young nurse with no significant family background.
Provided Avery could brighten up Bernard’s life, Lady Taylor was willing to accept her. But the nurse didn’t seem to even consider Bernard worthy of attention.
