Chapter 310: His Threat (8)
Afterwards, she quit her job, left the hospital, and stopped being a nurse.
She had a dream when she was young, which was to become a chef. How she ended up learning to make cakes was a sort of coincidence. Anyway, she slowly fell in love with dessert-making. Every time she’d step into the shop and put on her white chef’s uniform, the sense of pride she felt was similar to when she used to wear her nursing attire. Then, she would pour all her heart into baking the tastiest cakes.
"Was it for this trifling issue that you kept pestering me ever since I came back? Is that it?" Avery Graham felt aggrieved. If she had known sooner that he had been brooding over this issue for so long, she would have clarified things earlier.
The reason she didn’t say anything before was because she didn’t want to be the sort of person who, despite knowing they are about to leave, attempts to ruin a mother-son relationship. She figured that when Bernard’s mom came looking for her, it was surely out of love for her son. Whether this love would hurt others was something most mothers wouldn’t consider.
She refrained from being rude to Bernard’s mom because of their mother-son bond. Otherwise, how could she tolerate being pointed at and insulted by a stranger?
"..." This woman’s inability to hold back a curse was really something, thought Bernard, frowning.
"If you want to know, I’ll tell you. But I hope that from now on you’ll stop disturbing my life, okay? Your mom did come to find me. She probably misunderstood our relationship, which is why she came looking for me. She wanted me to be aware of myself. Actually, I don’t have many strengths, but self-awareness is my only one. I won’t aspire to you, and much less to your family. After I made that clear to your mom, she didn’t bother me again. Also... I’ve found someone I like now."
Upon hearing the last sentence, his eyebrows furrowed even more intensely.
"Is that so? I thought you still wanted to be a nurse. It seems I misunderstood again." Bernard suddenly smoothed his furrowed brow.
"Thanks, but I’m happy baking cakes now. Besides, being my own boss means I don’t have to put up with anyone’s nonsense," Avery answered with some resentment, referring to the time when she had had to put up with Bernard’s difficult tendencies.
