Chapter 144: Welcome Back to Both of Us
Calix landed at Silvercrest City when the skyline had faint hues of amber, violet and ruby colors. The sun would begin to ascend soon. Most of the city was still asleep, attributing to the weekend days.
Uncle Raymond came to pick Calix up from the airport. The middle-aged man welcomed him back before congratulating Calix for Leslie’s recovery.
"Mr. Calix, you should freshen up before going to the hospital this morning," said Uncle Raymond, looking at Calix through the rearview mirror, "Mrs. An said that Mrs. Charlene isn’t in any critical condition. Aren’t you tired? You were on a long flight."
Calix notified Uncle Raymond to drive him and Leslie to the hospital at eight. He wanted her to have thorough checkups there. Dr. Mo—Leslie’s doctor—was already informed about it.
"I’m fine, Uncle Raymond," replied Calix with a faint smile, "I’ve got some shut eye in the flight. I want my wife to be examined quickly."
The sooner it was done, the better.
"We were so surprised ah," Uncle Raymond chuckled in helplessness, referring to him and his wife, "We couldn’t believe that Mrs. Charlene had woken up. This is good! A very good thing!"
Uncle Raymond’s happy voice had a tinge of relief, softening Calix’s smile as he heard the older man talking. The car continued moving smoothly on the non-busy expressways.
"I think her condition should be better than mine before," expressed Calix sincerely, "My wife regained consciousness after three months, earlier than me. She also didn’t have broken limbs like me."
Throwing his gaze out of the window, Calix stared at the skyscrapers of the city. His solemn look was reflected on the glass panel. The lights of the passing streetlamps ricocheted onto his countenance.
"I heard my wife and Mrs. An talking," said Uncle Raymond quietly, recalling the moment before he stepped out of the house to head to the airport, "The nurse said the same thing too. If it’s true, Mrs. Charlene is very blessed!"
