Chapter 806 - 806: Need to build strength
Wilderness
Last night,
Martin was moving through the mid-air slowly towards an unexplored region. He was keeping an eye on the surroundings.
As he went inside, he was surprised to see many beast corpses on the ground. He knew the beasts weren't killed by humans.
They had died before they crossed the border.
Martin noticed the claw marks on their dead bodies. His eyes gleamed with a twinkle.
He wondered whether they had come across any higher-tier beasts. A single Tier-8 Sky Crocodile was enough to bring the city to a halt.
As he went further inside, he noticed that every corpse had the same claw mark. It showed that the beasts were killed by the same beast.
He doubted whether it could have been done by a group.
Because all the beasts were killed in one or two moves. More than that, the beasts that were killed weren't ordinary beasts.
They were between Tier-7 and Tier-8. When this realization struck, Martin had to pause his movements in mid-air.
He was shocked. He landed on the ground and began to inspect the corpses. He wanted to confirm the dates.
It didn't take long for him to verify the dates.
Gulp!
He swallowed his saliva the next second.
Martin didn't know what to say. His mind was frozen. What he had found out was the date of the remains before they expired.
It coincided with the Beast Tide which occurred earlier. If these beasts had crossed the border that day, he could imagine the death toll would have been higher.
Martin then wondered which beast had done this. He knew about the Tier-9 Sky Crocodile.
The claw marks of the crocodile were different from the claw marks on the dead bodies here.
He started to waver. He had assumed the Beast Tide incident was man-made. Now, the unknown beast claw marks were making him think otherwise.
Martin then recovered his thoughts. He thought he was now getting close to the truth. But a question started to weigh heavily in his mind.
He didn't know which beast had done it, and he was curious to know whether the beast was alive or not.
The beast which had done it must be a Tier-9 beast. The dead beasts were between Tier-7 and Tier-8.
If it was a Tier-9 beast, then he wanted to know whether it was stronger than the Tier-9 Sky Crocodile.
If the unknown Tier-9 beast was alive, then it posed a greater threat than the Tier-9 Sky Crocodile.
Martin collected his thoughts. He then decided to go deeper. He appeared in the mid-air once again. He swept his gaze across the place.
He wanted to find the traces of the beast. If he found the beast, then he would have to make the return journey right away.
...
Red Moon Chamber
Harold heard that the young man was standing outside. He gave him permission to enter.
Creak!
Jeremy opened the door and walked inside. He saw old man Harold sitting behind the desk. He saw that the old man was behaving as usual, going through tons of reports.
But his face showed some kind of urgency. Jeremy knew instantly that something was up.
Harold raised his head and saw Jeremy.
"Why is he here?" Harold thought.
"Sit," he said next.
Jeremy nodded his head before sitting opposite him.
"So, what's up?" Harold asked.
"Head, did you find anything?" Jeremy asked.
Harold raised his eyebrows. He knew that the kid was asking about the border situation. The Governors' warnings came to his mind.
"Why do you want to know?" Harold asked.
It wasn't like he didn't trust the kid, but he recalled the warnings. If the kid didn't shut his mouth and engaged in loose talk, it could cause consequences.
"I want to be prepared," Jeremy replied.
If he knew, then he could put his focus on training instead of going to the wilderness for a mission.
He also knew there was a target on his back. The Darkshade members were looking out for him in the wilderness. He didn't know whether that group had survived or not.
Harold heard the words and then put away his resistance. He thought the kid was responsible and interested in improving himself.
"Okay, if it's you, then I'll tell you. But don't tell another soul. I was given a warning by the Governors," Harold said.
Hearing that, Jeremy Night's heart skipped a beat.
He was right. Something was definitely up.
"Don't worry, elder. I won't say a word to others," Jeremy said to Head Harold in a serious tone.
Harold continued to stare into Jeremy Night's eyes. Seeing that Jeremy Night seemed to be sincere, he decided to trust him on this matter.
"We are not safe yet. The Governors didn't tell me what they found, but they told me to be prepared," Harold replied.
"To be prepared," Jeremy uttered.
He didn't understand. If the Governors had said this, then they expected another Beast Tide. The city had yet to recover from the previous attack.
If another Tier-9 Corrupted Beast managed to breach the safety and attack the city, then the people would abandon the city.
If two Tier-9 Corrupted Beasts launched an attack, it would show that the Governors and other Beast Taming Forces had failed to protect the city.
The city could become unliveable.
What's more, last time, the human settlements around the city were safe from the Beast Tide. If the attack happened this time, then the human settlements could be swept away.
There was silence in the room.
"Now that you know, don't think too much about it. Your job is to train and improve yourself," Harold said.
To that, Jeremy Night nodded his head.
"At this level of battle, only the lords from the Human Alliance could put an end to this," Harold added.
A few minutes later,
Jeremy Night walked out of the office room. His mind was heavy. He then went back to his room.
He wanted to visit the Beast Taming Store to sell the corpses of wind wolves and wild boars.
He was already late. Right now, he decided to take a break. He needed to digest the information first.
After reaching the room, he shut the door, went to the sofa, and lied down. The information was too much.
If the news were leaked to the public, he could already imagine the aftermath.
