Chapter 230: It’s Not About You
OWEN
~
As I ambled into the room the rackety sound of a beeping machine resonated within it. My sad eyes glanced at Emma on the bed, as well as several machines that were keeping her alive, mostly the mouth breather. She took slow breaths that I could barely hear, feeble and faint, her chest rising and falling slowly to the point you would think she wasn’t breathing at all.
I watch Vanessa as she uses a towel to wipe Emma’s forehead gently. She was always there watching her and not leaving her spot, except when she needed to freshen up, she hadn’t gone home too, I was always the one bugging her to get some sleep but she doesn’t, she prefers watching Emma.
"Hey", She faced me and finally took notice of my presence even though I have walked in for a few minutes now. "I bought burgers, you didn’t eat last night" I mentioned raising the package bag.
She smiled faintly at me. "Thank you, Owen" she took the bag and I took my seat. "How’s your body?"
"Healing" my wounds were nothing and I wasn’t worried about them. "Any improvements?"
Vanessa’s eyes turned melancholy as she shook her head, for a minute there I thought she would cry again. "No, still the same, the only thing keeping her alive are these machines" she wiped her eyes and I knew the tears were already falling again.
"Vanessa" I began in a mild tone and she faced me with her bloodshot eyes. "Don’t you think you should tell her mom?"
She sighed heavily and then sobbed.
"It’s been a month now"
