Pampered by my Billionaire CEO Husband

Chapter 166: Is it true?

His voice was soft but the coldness in his voice was unmissable, carrying an undercurrent of finality that I did not expect to come from him. There was no hesitation, and barely any trace of warmth. His gaze was unwavering, but there was something behind his eyes I couldn’t quite decipher, perhaps it was shame or guilt or anger, I don’t know.

All I knew was that his words had hit me hard, stabbing through my chest and into my heart like sharp daggers. I stood frozen in place, unable to move, the words ringing in my ears, replaying in my head like a broken record player I couldn’t seem to fix.

"Leave!" He shouted again, much louder than before as his deep voice remained hoarse.

I could feel Paula’s presence behind me, her eyes sharp and her mocking gaze lingering on me, waiting for me to react as a slight smirk tugged at the corners of her lips. But all I could do was stare at Xavier, trying to process the situation that was unravelling before my own eyes. I stumbled a couple of steps back and for a moment, I thought I might collapse. But I reached out and held onto the wall beside.

"Xavier..." His name left my parted lips in a soft voice as I looked at him, hurt flashed past my dark brown eyes. My brows were knitted together, forming a slight frown between my brows as a puzzled expression masked my features.

"What are you...I don’t understand..." My voice trailed off, my tone was laced with confusion as my mind buzzed with thoughts and questions, swirling inside my head like a damn hurricane. I just couldn’t understand it. What was with the sudden change? "Why?"

Before he could even utter a single word, Paula’s voice reached my ears.

"What do you mean why?" She asked smugly. I whipped my head around to come face to face with her this time, watching as her eyes swirled with satisfaction. She had her arms folded over her chest as our gazes met. "Just leave, he told you to leave," she sneered, her tone carrying a sharp edge to it as the smirk that was plastered across her face grew wider.

I had expected Xavier to speak up for me, to defend me against his mother’s sharp words. But instead I was met with silence and disappointment washed over me in an instant.

"But I –"

Her sharp voice interrupted me, cutting me off before I could even complete my sentence.
