Chapter 278: Communication
"Did you come here looking like that?" She asked cautiously, her words wavering out of the fear of knowing. It seemed he knew exactly what he was talking about, because he laughed and walked up to her, leaving about a few feet of space between them while he gave his reply. "No, darling, I came with a coat, I left it in my car." He rose his hand to her face and tucked one stray lock of her hair behind her ear, and then he placed his palm on her cheek. She leaned into his touch, her vision faltering slightly as her eyelids flickered close at his contact.
"I didn’t know you were capable of such bloodcurdling threats," He whispered playfully, her eyes flung open as she registered his words. "My daring amazon," he continued, his thumb caressing her bottom lip, leaving tiny darts of longing on the sensitive skin.
"I was merely trying to get rid of him. He came to me against his own will."
"I know, that’s how Remo can be." He replied calmly. His soothing voice caused her to look up at him, studying his expression for any sign of anything. There was nothing except sincerity.
"How are you so sure?" She asked timidly, her eyes darting from side to side as she struggled to make sense of his words.
"Mm," he moaned, raising his eyes to the ceiling and wrapping his arms around her. "Let’s just say, I got a life changing speech to take back what’s mine—or in our case, who’s mine." He concluded the words, looking into her eyes, and placing his forehead against hers.
A life changing speech?! What does that mean? She mused, closing her eyes and welcoming his embrace. However, just as she was about to succumb to his gradually intensifying touches, she pushed against his chest, breaking them apart with as much strength as she could muster in her arms. She turned away from him, heading right for the fridge and turning to face him once again.
"What can I get you? I’m afraid I don’t have whiskey. But I do have wine, I don’t even know why I bought them in the first place." She mumbled almost to her hearing alone. However, to her relief, he did hear what she had said.
Instead of a reply, Matteo walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her once again, this time, in a bear hug that made her melt into him. "I’m sorry, Stella." He whispered over her shoulder, squeezing her tenderly as he spoke the words.
