The Sweetest Temptation

Chapter 277: Coming over

Time and again, Stella would peer at her phone log, eyes fixed on Beatrix’s number. She did not know if it was a good idea to place a call after everything that had happened—after all, she had a thing or two to do with her brothers.

Ha! What a turn of events. She thought to herself with a laugh. She placed her phone back on the bed beside her pillow and reached for the chocolates on her bedside table, throwing one chunk into her mouth. She sighed as the flavor melted onto her tongue, filling her once again with a temporary delight that did things to her brain.

I guess it’s good to sit back and unwind after a long day.

All day, after the Quinn brothers left her home, she had been binging on movies and periodically eating one snack or the other, occupying her mind with anything else but pondering on the fact that she had somehow let Matteo slip from her grasp. However, right now, as she let the chocolate slip onto her tongue, she could not help appreciating his thoughtfulness at coming with them in the first place.

She never imagined in her wildest dream that he would go out of his way to figure out her door and even bring make up flowers along—it almost felt like a lover’s quarrel with the guy coming to make amends first. Except, in their case, he had been seen with a woman.

What was their history anyway? She thought to herself, her eyes taking on a questioning note while she peered at her phone once again. In the short time that she had taken to process the image in her mind, she had seen some evidence of long-term bond. And although she wasn’t sure if it was a thing in the first place, she was certain it existed.

Notwithstanding, his was with a stranger he did not know. But she, she had gone the extra mile and gone ahead to get caught with his brother. That was a weighty comparison compared to him. And right now, as she thought about it, her mind took on a question she had not bothered to ponder on until this moment.

Is he willing to listen to me?

Just as it took root in her mind, a soft knock came at the door. She jerked her gaze to look at it, and then she turned to her phone. Picking it up, she checked the time, and to her surprise, it was eight forty at night. Whoever would be crazy enough to make it to her home around this time, was most likely to be Remo. She sighed and smacked her palm against her forehead.

Please, go away, not now! She thought to herself remorsefully, regret and a new surge of anger refilling her being. If there was anything she wanted to escape, it was either of the two brothers, although, a part of her knew that if it was Matteo, she would be willing to comply.

What if it’s him? Just as the thought took root in her mind, another soft knock resounded in her room. She looked at her phone, there was no message about his pending arrival. If he truly wanted to drop by, he would’ve left a message, or placed a call.
