The Sweetest Temptation

Chapter 279: Couple

Stella’s eyes shot open as she grew increasingly aware of a painfully familiar dozen tiny-needle prickling sensation flooding her arm, no thanks to the weight of Matteo’s seemingly burly arm resting atop hers. As satisfying as the current situation was, she could not imagine remaining in that position longer than another minute.

With an unusual bout of regret, she eased from his hold, gently resting his heavy arm beside him and adjusting to a sitting position beside him. She propped her back on the bedframe, her eyes taking a distinct look in them as she beheld his normally filed features at rest.

He looked anything but the image he presented while he was awake. Anyone who’d be privileged to see him in this manner, with all guards down, almost innocent looking, would think he was not capable of any harm whatsoever.

It was at this moment that she realized, in spite of his maturity, much of his boyish features never really melted off as one would expect of a man in his thirties. No one would ever imagine that such a person was even involved in the clandestine activities of a Mafia group.

He stirred lightly, startling her momentarily. With her hands braced beside her, ready to spring up from the bed if he opened his eyes, she waited. But after he’d adjusted, and there was no further movement, she settled back into her position, resuming her keen observation.

Several locks of his hair had covered a part of his eyes, preventing her from being able to study the rest of him. Instinctively, she reached forward, and began to caress the silky locks. And in all her days of being with him, it was the first time she’d consciously felt what his hair was like. There was not much thought processing ability to know what it actually felt like when she ran her hands through them during sex. And what’s more, it was unexpected.

She relished the feeling of his hair dancing through her digits, caressing her palm, and when she’d gotten ample feel of it, she raked it backwards, once again giving herself the delightful display of his now innocent beauty.

I wonder what it would be like if we were a couple.

The thought had always lingered in her mind, even before this moment. But right now, as she sat beside him, caressing his helplessly cute form, it latched onto her belief like a desert traveler to the illusion of an oasis. It was never going to happen.

However, in spite of settling on this thought, there was a part of her that held on to this supposed illusion like a soon-to-be-answered prayer. Faith.

And then he opened his eyes.

"Am I really that attractive?" He asked cheekily, his eyes locking with hers, but not for long. Her face turned a bright crimson that was almost evident even in the dim lighting. With a swift jerk of her head, she tore her gaze away from him.
