Chapter 38: The First Step
It wasn’t until my foot touched concrete that I finally realized why I felt so off since I woke up in the water.
"Teddy!" I cried out in panic as I spun around in a circle as if I could find Teddy that way. I was a horrible mother, completely forgetting about Teddy until now. The poor baby was probably scared stupid, alone in the world without me around.
How could I have forgotten about him?!?
"Hush," soothed Envy as he popped into my mind. "You know Teddy won’t leave you so easily."
"But he has to be scared," I pouted, crouching down until I was nothing more than a small ball on the side of the road. Ever since I killed Père, things had gone downhill, and now, Teddy was missing.
"Everything you want is just a wish away, or did you forget that, Silly girl?" chuckled Envy.
"I wish that Teddy was a part of me so that he will never be left behind again," I announced, closing my eyes as I put the wish out in the universe. I knew what it was like to be left behind, and I never wanted to do that to Teddy.
A burning mark appeared on my inner wrist, and I hissed in pain. "What?!?" I demanded.
Feeling Envy touch my shoulder, I used his eyes to see what had happened to me. Sitting there, ever so proud, on my wrist was a tattoo of Teddy, down to the slightest detail. It was like someone had actually taken Teddy, made him smaller, and pushed him into my skin.
