Chapter 39: Will You Take Care Of Me?
I never felt that being blind was that much of a disadvantage. I had my home’s layout memorized, and except for the few times that the Shit Stains had changed the furniture, I could get around the place better than them.
When I was being carried by one of the guys, I didn’t really need my sight... hell, I didn’t even need my legs at that point.
But now, walking down an abandoned highway with cars, trucks, and litter everywhere, I was going to break my neck if I didn’t come up with a solution.
Greed and the rest of the demons led me around the bigger obstacles as best they could, but I think my shins were going to be permanently dented from the number of small things I walked into.
"Hold out your hand," grunted Pride, clearly having come to the same conclusion as I had. Following his directions, I held out my hand, not holding Teddy, only for a thin stick to be placed in it. "Use this to figure out what to avoid. Clearly, we are shit at that assignment."
"Speak for yourself," sneered Lust, and I felt him looming over my shoulder. "It’s not my fault there are so many broken cars on this road. Whose idea was it to go this way, anyways?"
"Mine," I signed. Lowering the stick so that one end was touching the ground, I waved it back and forth against the road, making note of where it had hit something.
This was going to be another skill I was going to have to learn if I wanted to make it on my own.
"Well..." started Lust before drifting off. I could hear the embarrassment in his voice through just that one word, and I couldn’t help but chuckle.
