Chapter 1040: How far can he push his luck?

Meanwhile, in the middle of the desert, four men stood under the scorching heat. There was a great distance between each of them.

"Bernard Gambone," Elliot Dunkel remarked as soon as his eyes fell on the person standing behind Dominic. "I’ve always wondered why a man such as yourself is now working for Mr. Zhu. But then again, I must admit Mr. Zhu can be quite... terrifying."

Elliot shifted his eyes to the other old man in the area. "Don’t you agree, Mr. President?"

"Dunkel, as much as I want to chat with you, you’ve already wasted so much of my time," the other person, Ram, pointed out calmly. "If that is what you planned from the beginning, you should’ve brought refreshments. I am old and being under this heat is dangerous for me."

"It wasn’t my idea to meet in the middle of the desert," Elliot defended in the same tone. "It was Mr. Zhu’s idea to meet in such a setting. Even I am drenched with sweat. Moreover, although it’s a shame that you see it as wasting your time, I’m not completely the one to blame. Someone intruded the Interpol, and someone has to take the heat for not bringing in at least one intruder."

"The higher-ups were very pissed," he added. "Hera Cruel surely is someone who would compel one to put everything on the line."

Bear instinctively glanced at Dominic’s side, only to see the man’s unfazed reaction. Ram, on the other hand, raised his brows.

"So, it was true, huh?" Ram hummed, pleased to hear that Hera seemed to be back to her old self. "That’s a relief."

"Relief? Well, I guess it is for you." Elliot chuckled, finding it amusing how Ram would consider Hera’s comeback a relief when the majority dreaded it. "The shame she put us through surely warrants greater interest from not just the Interpol, but from everyone in the underground. From what I heard, everyone is on the move... except Dragon. I don’t think he still has the means, though. Isn’t that astounding?"

One second, Dragon seemed to be at the top of the world. But then, in the blink of an eye, he was gone. Although this wasn’t new in the underground, one would expect it wouldn’t be easy.

"Hera is off the table," said Dominic, without riding the carousel Elliot was leading. "As long as you agree, I don’t care what else you need from me."
