Chapter 1039: This book as my witness

Primo listened to country music as he waited for Hera in the car. He tapped his finger against the steering wheel, rocking his head along with the beat. When he heard the backseat open, he snapped his brows up and glanced through the rear mirror.

"Ready to go?" he asked Hera.

Hera closed her eyes and drew a deep breath. She didn’t respond to him, gazing down at the book beside her and the pacifier she took from Miracle’s crib in her hand. She raised her head, turning it to the villa where her children were staying at the moment.

"Just a minute," she murmured, staring at the house. "Give me a moment."

Primo nodded in understanding, checking his wristwatch. He didn’t say anything anymore, knowing this was what she needed right now. Just a moment. A moment to breathe, to gather her thoughts, and to wrap her heart with steel.

Hera stared at the house with soft eyes, smiling subtly. Primo, on the other hand, kept his eyes on the rearview mirror. It was almost strange to see her wear such a look. After watching her for a while now, one would believe Hera had no heart at all. If he was still her enemy, this would shock him. But then again, she had always been like this. At least, he knew that much when she was still in Heaven’s body.

He lost an arm as a lesson, after all.

Primo kept his eyes on the rearview mirror, watching her carefully. When Hera closed her eyes once more and drew another deep breath, he saw everything disappear when she reopened her eyes. The softness and gentleness, the affection and longing, all gone. What was left in her eyes was nothing but the demoness everyone feared.

"Let’s go," Hera ordered, setting her eyes on the driver’s seat. "Let’s pick up Tiger and leave this place."

"Yes, ma’am!" Primo raised his brows briefly, whistling at the remarkable change that exuded in her tone. "God, you’re scary."
