First Real Mission
The graduation for everyone wasn't really anything, as they were all locked in a small room and were given another full physical and body scan as they recorded everything down to the freaking atom, it seemed like.
Once everything was recorded, they gave everyone their first case, which was a bit awkward for Jake, as his first task was using the connections he already had, as he was to go and find out whatever Norman Osborn was hiding.
Nick Fury: "We got intel that Norman Osborn is getting up to something he shouldn't be. So, we want you to use Harry and find out what it is."
Jake: "Um... can someone else possibly do that? I've known Harry for a long time and don't really want to possibly destroy my friendship with him."
Nick Fury: "We understand that things might be awkward for this, but all we're asking is to see what Norman is hiding, and after that we'll act upon whatever you tell us."
And just like that, Jake was released from his hellish training as he wondered just what Ava and Lela were doing, as they were the ones he got the closest to during his training, and he wanted to see how they've improved since then.
But seeing as how they were probably never going to meet one another unless something serious happened or if they managed to meet each other in their civilian identities.
For now, that didn't matter since there's a very slim, practically zero chance that either of them would ever care enough to try and keep in contact with everyone else.
Standing in front of the Osborn apartment front desk, I wait for them to give me the okay to head up and see Harry or for one of them to come down and pick me up themselves, which was the case as Harry came down and told everyone he was allowed.
Every time he kept reinforcing how much he was like family or how much Harry and possibly Norman trusted Jake. Jake would get stomachaches as he tried his best to pretend like everything was okay while he just hated himself and wanted this to be finished ASAP.
Harry: "Man It's been forever since all three of us have hung out with each other."
Jake: "What?"
Yep, inside the Osborn family home was Penny, and when the two saw each other, Harry could immediately tell something happened between the two, as before this, they seemed to have a great friendship.
Penny: "H... (awkwardly waves hand) Hey..."
Jake: "Good... How about you?"
Realizing that the two needed some serious catching up, Harry left the room to get some snacks ready, as he wanted to try and get them back to how he remembers them being.
Penny: "So kill any innocent people lately?"
Penny said with anger and bitterness the second Harry left, as Jake just let out a massive sigh of relief, knowing that Penny was still going to be the annoying peace-loving gal she always seemed to be even when the person needed to die.
Jake: "Well, if you must know, then no. I have not taken a single life since I finished off the battle with the loyal minions of the symbiote queen."
Penny charged at Jake's waist and hugged it as tight as she possibly could, which, now that she wasn't holding back, caused Jake's spine to crack and pop as he feared he'd lose the ability to walk, especially when he could no longer feel his lower half.
Ekaj: "Did... did she just paralyze us from the waist down from a damn hug!? Man, I'm working hard to fix the damage, but just how strong is she really!?"
Penny: "I knew you could do it! (Stars in her eyes that seem to practically be sparkling) I knew you'd eventually come back to the light!"
Ekaj and Jake just stand in silence as they look down at just how innocent Penny was for someone who's seen the horrors of man multiple times ever since she started being Spider-Woman.
Jake just gently pats Penny's back since he feels very guilty since his no killings were only because he was too busy training as a S.H.I.E.L.D. trainee, as he was working his hardest to get stronger as he trained the entire time they last met.
Before the awkwardness could get any worse, Harry finally comes back, and as he does, both Jake and Ekaj praise God for ending the situation they found themselves in since he knew he was going to kill someone at some point once again.
Harry: "(Stumbles with his hands full with many different snacks with a pack of drinks getting dragged by some string) Well, this is everything I could get, but... are you guys up for spending some time to just chill like we did before?"
Jake and Penny feel extremely guilty upon seeing his pure and innocent smile along with his eyes filled with hope upon hanging out with his friends again, especially if it means he could help both of them feel better and make up.
This results in Jake feeling even guiltier about what he has to do as he reluctantly agrees to hang out with his possibly former friends if everything goes downhill like he believes it will after he finds whatever Norman is doing behind closed doors.
Jake: "(Takes a deep breath) Just got back."
Was the only thing either of them heard as Jake ignores his mission and instead plans to have some fun with his friends since he's not really relaxed at all for the whole three months he's spent training with all the other trainees.
Sitting back and relaxing as best he could, Jake just tried to enjoy himself, while Penny seemed to be having the time of her life as she constantly kept looking at Jake and then smiling or even giggling, as Harry just smiled, but his seemed a bit dead sometimes.
Ekaj: "So the boy who has it all desires the smart webhead, huh?"
Jake: "I don't know how to feel about that."
Ekaj: "(Caresses Jake's face) Oh ho ho ho! Don't lie to me. I thought we were already long past you hiding your desires from me."
Jake: "Just because I may want it in the back of my head doesn't mean I'll do it! I actually want my friends to be happy and not just myself."
Ekaj lets go of Jake's face and shakes his head before vanishing, as he just couldn't understand or even care to try and understand why Jake doesn't try and woo all the women he wants and tries to create the perfect harem he truly wants.
While the three teens played games and watched movies and shows to their hearts' content, Norman arrived with his entire entourage of people and looked annoyed upon seeing his son having people over but quickly changed gears once he realized it was Penny and Jake.
Norman: "Hello everyone. I hope you're enjoying yourselves. Now Harry, I expect you to have this all cleaned up by twelve o'clock."
It was currently ten, meaning they'd only have two more hours of fun, and before Harry could possibly try and argue or beg his father to let him and his friends hang out for longer, he wasn't willing to listen as he walked into his office.
Jake under his breath: "Damn it."
Penny perks up as she hears Jake say that and wonders what he meant but quickly assumes he possibly has some problems with his family since he never really talks about them.
Jake: "(Pats Harry's back) Dude, don't worry about it. Things happen, and besides, I haven't seen my family yet, and they'd probably get very angry if I don't see them the same day I get back."
Penny and Harry try to get Jake to stay, but Jake brings Harry closer and says something to him that causes him to act a bit embarrassed as he coughs quite a few times as he "reluctantly" lets Jake leave as he and Penny spend the remaining two hours together.
Jake, meanwhile, goes back home after getting himself a cake and tray of cookies with some of the money he stole from those bank robbers all that time ago that, by now, he's completely free to use, as they've probably stopped caring since many other banks have been robbed since then.
The second he steps through the door, his little sister immediately charges at him, almost causing him to throw the bag that held the cake and cookies across the room as Haley just clung to her brother and did not let go even when eating the cake.
Jake: "(Smiles as he pats his sister's back) It's good to be home."
Meanwhile, back in the Osborn apartment, a small sludge spider falls off Harry's sweater as it begins moving through the apartment and makes its way into Norman's office, and, not seeing a single person inside, it realizes this and heads to a corner of the room and waits.
