Chapter 129: A Goddess’s Relief
A soft mumble left my lips, “No… all of this is a disaster.”
I held Eli tighter, who coiled his tail around my arms.
Loki brushed the hair off my cheek, lying next to me as the bed sank under his weight.
“Hm? Why?” He whispered, wrapping his warm embrace around me.
I could not help but shift towards him, dragging Eli with me, too.
“Oh, I don’t know. Is it because Emma is dead? Or is it that even if we save you, you are doomed?” I grumbled, glaring at him.
You’re too carefree for your own good.
This vampire had no connection to Emma, like Oz and I did, so her death didn’t bother him as much as it did to us, yet his eyes still were tender towards us both, ensuring that although he didn’t care for the witch, he did care how it hurt us. The hole she had left behind was a big one, yet there was solace to be found in the knowledge that the man who caused her death was no longer around.
“Baby girl, we don’t get to say goodbye when we want to.” Loki breathed, trailing his fingers down my cheeks.
“No… we don’t, but I could’ve saved her if I didn’t go after Tania,” I whispered, gazing away from his face as pangs rose on my chest.
Yes… I could’ve… but I let my thirst for vengeance take control, and Emma was the one who paid for it! Now… everything seems even darker than it used to! Argh… My entire head is a mess. Why did it take her death to realize how important she is to me? Why is that a thing? I… don’t understand anything about what I’m supposed to do!
All I can hope for is that your next life is better than this one. You deserve that, but will there be a world for your next life? Hey Emma… If you could choose to be anything in your next life, what would you choose? A butterfly or perhaps a bird? I would pick the latter, so you could fly in the beautiful blue sky this world has.
For that… I need to…
“Hm… Well, do you want to tell me more?” He hummed, petting my hair as I couldn’t help but whimper a little because of it. “I mean, I already knew you wanted to kill her, but you didn’t.” He added, trailing one of his hands down to my hips before grasping onto it and pulling me closer toward him.
In response to his tug, I clasped onto his shirt, yanking on it slightly.
“No, I didn’t, I couldn’t,” I confessed, smothering myself in his chest.
His scent was always so calming to me.
“Tell me what happened. You know, I won’t judge you.” He breathed.
“I… basically ran into her by mistake while at the ballroom, and well… kind of lost it but didn’t do much else other than let her go,” I mumbled. “Though… I foolishly used magic without knowing about the rift. I could’ve ended everything without even knowing it.”
“But you didn’t. All you did was hurt her a little bit. She’s fine by the way, and couldn’t remember a single thing about you.” Loki intercepted, prompting me to bite my lip.
“She better be. After talking about her old lover and about wanting to join him in death, it was…” I trailed off, not wanting to finish that.
My heart stung; my body shook a bit at the thought.
Is this guilt?
“I just… couldn’t handle it.” I bit my lip, triggering a soft chuckle to come from Loki.
“What do you mean? I’m sure there is more to that.” He asked softly, triggering me to wince.
Hey… Can you choose me over your family? It’s not like it matters with the new bond… Unless I can break you free from me, but is that even possible?
“She was in pain, and death would’ve been a comfort for her. So, I refuse to free her from that. She deserves it and more for taking Nene away.” I answered, gazing away from him.
This was what I wanted to believe, but in reality, that wouldn’t have stopped me if it weren’t for this troublesome vampire.
“Oh? I’m also sure that isn’t the only reason.” Loki continued to pry.
I growled, puffing my cheeks at him soon after. “What other reason would there be?!”
He tilted his head before raising his eyebrows, prompting my heart to skip a beat as a soft smile rose on his lips.
“Well, uh… because you want to be with me? And she is family to me?” He didn’t hold any punches, as my cheeks burned because of it.
In response, I grabbed Eli and snuggled myself into him, allowing my eyes to tear away from the sly vampire.
“I…” I trailed off, biting my lip as my emotions were becoming harder to hide.
We formed the eternal bond! What else do you want from me?! I’m not the type of girl to say things like that all the time!
“Hmm? What was that?” He teased, trailing his fingers down my clothes.
“Argh! You’re doing this on purpose!” I pouted, grabbing onto his shirt a little rougher this time.
“Am I? I just want you to be honest.” He chuckled.
I could not help but shake him a bit. “Don’t you think it is too late for that! You are stuck with me for eternity!”
In response, he cupped my cheeks, pulling me onto him.
“I didn’t mean that, sweetheart.” He breathed, trailing one hand through my hair, leaving me tingling all over.
“You only ever cry when you let the floodgates open. So, why don’t you let those emotions out a little more?” My vampire asked.
Instinctively, I glared at him. “Oh, no, don’t you dare!”
In response, he rolled his eyes and clasped onto my bum, causing a soft whine to leave my lips.
“I won’t do that to you, but if you keep being explosive, I’ll have to work some of that energy out,” Loki said, licking his lips.
For a moment, I stared at him before breaking out in a giggle, prompting those blue eyes of his to narrow for a moment. A second later, I leaned on him and pressed my lips against his neck, leaving behind a mark on his pale skin. He had so many of them thanks to our encounter the night before, but his blouse covered them. Touching his little bruise, triggering me to relish the fact that he was mine alone.
I’m the only one allowed to do these things to you.
“Oi, Thea and Oz will see that when they come back.” Loki touched his neck, cheeks rosy.
In response to his complaint, I straddled his waist, trailing my hands down his body, as he had tempted the temptress, and I never back down from a moment with him.
Right now, I don’t think I’ll care if Oz or Thea walks in on us.
“Oh? If that bothers you, all you have to do is drink a little bit of blood, and it will heal.” I pointed out, placing my thumb on his lips.
You’re really mine. I won’t allow any god to take you from me. Hey… how did I grant you your power if a god took it away?
Fenrir had left most of his power connected to the moon to ensure Lycans wouldn’t lose their abilities as the vampires did when their divine took it all away.
So… How did you… Can I… out-rule the living gods even in this state?
“Oh? You know what my bite will do to you, even if you’re getting used to it.” Loki licked my finger as I couldn’t help but smirk at my beloved vampire.
