Chapter 544 Let Go, Earthling
She raised her hand to recall her spear, forcing its energy output to the limit of an overclocked state.
The light at the spear’s tip shone blindingly bright, emitting a vibrating hum.
She intended to end everything with this single strike.
"Die!"
With all her might, she hurled the unerring spear!
The spear, carrying terrifying momentum, pierced through the floating islands along its path and headed straight for Captain America.
Facing this lethal strike, Steve performed an action that made the entire Universe audience gasp in shock.
He did not raise the Vibranium shield that had blocked countless attacks.
Instead, he turned his body, twisted his waist, and poured all his strength into his right arm.
He threw the shield with all his might!
Whoosh!
The shield left his hand.
But to everyone watching, this looked like a desperate, final counterattack born of despair.
However, the direction the shield flew was ridiculously off-target.
The shield did not fly towards Proxima Midnight at all, nor did it intercept the spear.
Instead, it flew straight towards a massive gravitational vortex in the void to the side.
"Hahaha! Has your mentality collapsed?" Proxima Midnight laughed loudly. "Without that turtle shell, what will you use to block my spear? Your flesh and blood?"
The spear whistled as it arrived, reaching Steve in an instant.
But Steve stood his ground.
He did not dodge or evade.
His eyes were calm, without the slightest wavering or fear.
Just at the moment the spear was about to pierce his chest.
Clang—!!!
The Vibranium shield that had flown into the gravitational vortex suddenly slashed out from the side and behind!
It was moving too fast for the naked eye to track!
This was Steve’s tactic!
During the chase earlier, he had not been running away aimlessly.
Instead, he had been frantically calculating the pull angle and force of every gravitational vortex in the arena.
He threw the shield, constructing a perfect "gravitational slingshot trajectory."
The shield continuously accelerated and changed trajectory through multiple gravitational vortices and gravity fields.
Each time it entered a vortex, its kinetic energy was amplified exponentially.
When it finally shot out, its speed and power had reached a terrifying peak!
The shield struck the side of the spear with pinpoint accuracy.
Crack!
Under the impact of this violent kinetic energy, the "unerring spear" deformed instantly, and its internal core shattered on the spot.
The spear lost its lock and spun off into the void to the side.
The Vibranium shield, utilizing the reaction force from the collision, tilted slightly and headed straight for Proxima Midnight with a piercing sound that tore through the air!
"What?!"
Proxima Midnight was shocked; this unbelievable situation was completely beyond her understanding.
She hurriedly dodged to the side.
The shield flew past her cheek, its sharp edge slicing her skin.
Blood splattered, and her cheek stung with a burning pain.
At the same time, Steve bent his legs and pushed off with all his might!
Utilizing the gravitational acceleration along the way, he transformed into a cannonball, crossing tens of meters of void like lightning, and charged straight at Proxima Midnight.
By the time Proxima Midnight had just steadied her center of gravity and regained her senses, Steve had already arrived in front of her!
At this moment, the shield that had grazed Proxima, as if calculated perfectly, bounced a few times in the void and flew back to the Captain’s side.
Steve caught the rebounding shield, and without a word, swung it upward in mid-air with a powerful shield bash.
"Brooklyn Smash!"
Mimicking Homelander’s usual style, he shouted the name of the move.
Bang!
The edge of the shield slammed hard under Proxima Midnight’s chin.
Power erupted instantly.
Proxima Midnight didn’t even have time to scream; she was launched into the high air like a Rocket.
A severe concussion caused her brain to shut down on the spot, and she lost all consciousness.
Afterward, her body began to fall, caught by the gravitational vortex in the void, plummeting uncontrollably into the bottomless dark abyss.
The sensation of weightlessness from the rapid fall stimulated her nerves.
During the fall, Proxima Midnight’s consciousness began to gradually recover.
She opened her eyes, seeing the rubble flying past and feeling the terrifying suction coming from below.
But her body was numb; she couldn’t muster a shred of strength.
I lost.
I lost...
She closed her eyes. As an assassin under Thanos, she was accustomed to death.
Since she had failed, being swallowed by the abyss was her deserved fate.
Proxima Midnight despaired as she contemplated the end of her fate, waiting for the moment she would be smashed to pieces.
Suddenly.
Her falling body suddenly stopped!
An opposing force grabbed her arm, forcibly stopping her fall.
Proxima Midnight opened her eyes in confusion.
Then her eyes widened.
It was him!
That Earthling!
Steve was hanging off the edge of the floating island with more than half his body suspended in the air.
One of his hands was firmly gripping a crack in the rock, while the other was tightly clutching Proxima Midnight’s arm.
The veins on Steve’s forehead bulged, and his face turned bright red.
The gravitational pull in this area was terrifying; he had to resist not only Proxima Midnight’s weight but also the powerful suction from the abyss.
"Hngh..." Steve gritted his teeth, letting out low growls.
Proxima Midnight was stunned.
She couldn’t understand.
In the arena, knocking an enemy into the abyss meant victory. Why would this man risk being dragged down himself to save her?
"Let go, Earthling."
Proxima Midnight looked at Steve’s painful expression and said softly.
"You won. There is no need to humiliate me in this way." At this moment, she no longer had her previous arrogance.
Steve seemed to not hear her at all.
"Hold on tight!"
He gave a loud roar, the muscles on his arm bulging high as his power exploded in an overclocked burst at this moment.
"Ya-ha!"
With a mighty heave, he threw Proxima Midnight up onto the edge of the floating island.
Thump!
Proxima fell heavily onto the hard rock surface.
Immediately after, Steve used one hand to push himself up, flipping onto the floating island.
He took deep breaths, only recovering after a while.
Proxima Midnight lay on her back on the ground, staring blankly at the void dome.
The feeling of escaping death did not make her feel relieved; on the contrary, it filled her heart with confusion.
She turned her head, watching Steve walk towards her.
"Why? Why save me..." She asked in a low voice, her tone carrying a slight tremor she hadn’t even noticed herself.
"I just... almost killed you. If you had just let me go, you could have taken this victory without any suspense."
Steve stopped in front of her.
Then he bent down, extended a hand towards her, and revealed a calm smile at the corner of his mouth.
"Because that is the difference between you and me."
Proxima Midnight stared blankly at the broad palm extended toward her.
Her heart was filled with mixed emotions.
In the Black Order, there was only mockery while stepping on the corpses of the defeated; there was never pity for the vanquished.
Is this what Earthlings call ’justice’?
It’s so weak it’s laughable...
But why... do I now desperately want to make it my own?
