The Extinction Healer of the Beast Husbands

Chapter 41: Ch 41. Medicine Trials

Stevan almost fell asleep in his chair after Brok left to do his work. But strangely, with his vision slightly blurred from drowsiness, Stevan saw a figure that looked like Selena walk in after opening the door.

"Selena... You’re here?" he mumbled, but then chuckled softly as he closed his eyes again. "That’s impossible—this must just be a dream. Selena’s in her room; she’s sleeping. There’s no way she’d come to my palace," he muttered as he drifted back to sleep.

Calming himself by sleeping—which had now become his main problem—was perhaps the simplest solution. But it was only a temporary fix, because when he woke up, the problem was very real and he’d have to face it.

It wasn’t that Stevan wasn’t doing anything, but his options were limited, and he didn’t want to act recklessly—he still wanted to live a long life and rule well as the Dragon King. Besides, he also wanted Selena’s attention and healing.

Of all the things on his mind regarding the state of the palace and his clan, Selena was the hardest for him to face. And it was all because of his own sins and foolishness.

"You’re so relaxed, even though the Dragon clan’s borders might be destroyed any moment now."

Stevan froze upon hearing Selena’s voice. It was just that it felt quite difficult to open his eyes because he was so sleepy.

It was just a dream, right? It really did seem like a dream—otherwise, how could Selena possibly know about the situation at the Dragon Clan’s border? Stevan hadn’t said a word to her about it yet.

"Dragon King, if you’re going to sleep, go to your room! You’re sleeping on the Dragon Throne—that really doesn’t reflect the dignity of a king!" Selena said, raising her voice in frustration because her earlier words hadn’t made an impression.

This time it worked; Stevan suddenly opened his eyes and sat up straight. He stared in shock when he saw Selena standing in front of him with her hands on her hips.

"Selena? Oh my gosh, you really came?! I thought it was a dream!" he said with a tone of delight he made no effort to hide.

Selena clicked her tongue in exasperation. "Having a Dragon King like you sleeping on the throne is truly embarrassing. What would happen if the Dragon Clan’s people found out about your behavior, Stevan? You’d be seen as a king who loves to laze around," she said irritably.

Stevan grimaced like a fool. "I swear, this is the first time, Queen. I just fell asleep—it was completely accidental," he said, then stood up and invited Selena to sit in the chair next to his throne. "What brought you here? Did you wake up from your nap that quickly? When I came to your palace earlier, your servant said you were still asleep."

"I can’t sleep soundly since becoming the Healer of Extinction—my mind keeps racing, constantly urging me not to stop thinking about how to heal you all. And it’s so exhausting—it’s really ruining my sleep!" she snorted irritably, causing Stevan’s eyes to widen in surprise.

"Really? Does the extinction-healer’s brain really always work, even when she’s asleep? I didn’t know that," said Stevan, saying it quite innocently, which only made Selena even more annoyed.

"How could I not think while I sleep, when I have to deal with your complicated problems like this!" Selena took a long, deep breath and let it out lazily. "Never mind. I came because you delivered those rare fruits—and when I cut one open, a vision of tragedy appeared right before my own eyes."

"Tragedy?" Stevan furrowed his brow, confused. "What tragedy?"

"The unrest in the border region of your Dragon clan," Selena said, staring into Stevan’s eyes, which immediately widened. "It seems the Dragon clan isn’t as safe as I thought. Not only is your own body in danger—it’ll turn to stone if you use the Dragon Core six more times—but your clan could also be destroyed by the war and unrest that’s about to break out."

Stevan’s eyes widened even more, but then his brow furrowed. "Six more times? Didn’t you say seven more times? I haven’t used the Dragon Core since you said it could harm my body. Why has the number gone down when I haven’t been using it?" Stevan protested, causing Selena to sigh.

"That day when we were coming back from the council meeting, you used it accidentally."

Stevan furrowed his brow again. He tried to recall the moment, but he couldn’t quite remember when he’d done it. This made Selena sigh, then she placed a container of medicine on the table.

"Take this—mix it with half a glass of water."

Stevan looked at Selena with raised eyebrows. "What’s this?" he asked, reaching for the container.

"It’s an experimental remedy of mine," Selena said casually. "I made it from ingredients that can strengthen a person’s body tissues and prevent hardening of the skin and vital organs. It’s just that I haven’t tested it on anyone else yet because I don’t know anyone else with a condition like yours. So since you’re the one who needs it, you should be the one to use it."

Stevan was silent for a moment, then nodded in understanding. "Servant, bring some water."

"Warm water, if possible, so all the ingredients can dissolve without leaving any lumps," Selena added.

"Warm water, and while you’re at it, bring some snacks and the pure honey water that was fermented yesterday for the Queen," Stevan ordered again.

His face looked bright and enthusiastic as he stared at the container holding the medicine. Selena watched him, clearly intrigued, until she sighed.

"That’s a test. If, by any chance, you were to die from that medicine, would you still be this enthusiastic?" Selena asked, causing Stevan to look at her.

The man’s body froze for a moment, but then he smiled.

"I know you’re not that cruel. The fact that you dared to give me this experimental medicine means you’ve already prepared an alternative solution in case the effects don’t meet your expectations," Stevan replied optimistically.

Selena gave a small smile. "That’s ridiculous—I actually admire your confidence. At least you don’t think I’m going to kill you for the sins you’ve committed," she muttered sarcastically.

Stevan just grinned, while a servant brought warm water and a few others brought natural snacks in the form of dried fruits.

"Try this fermented honey—it’s one of the products produced by the Dragon clan and has become one of the most popular drinks in Eldoria," said Stevan as he poured the honey water.

Selena looked at its slightly thick texture, then raised an eyebrow. "Fermented honey? Can this make someone drunk?"

"No, it’s not an intoxicating drink. In fact, it can make someone feel quite energized; it helps the sick recover and is very beneficial for vitality. You could say it’s an energy booster," said Stevan, causing Selena to nod.

She took a sip, tasting a sweetness that was still tolerable, which made her realize this wasn’t ordinary honey. The honey she’d tasted in the human world was usually so sweet that people couldn’t eat much of it at once.

"How is it? Do you like it?" Stevan asked, prompting Selena to mumble.

"Not bad—at least it’s not as bland as regular drinking water."

Stevan smiled proudly that he’d managed to get Selena to praise his gift; he opened the container of herbal medicine and poured it into a glass.

"That’s enough—that’s the right amount."

Stevan complied, adding half a glass of water. After stirring the concoction, he downed it in one gulp.

"For the first time, the effect is only 10–20 percent. Whatever you feel, try to tell me—anything at all, including if it feels uncomfortable."

Stevan suddenly clutched his chest. "Ugh!"
