Chapter 42: Ch 42. Successful Test
Selena’s eyes widened as she watched Stevan vomit blood. She immediately set down her glass and approached Stevan, who was still bent over, vomiting fluid from his mouth.
"Stevan? Are you okay? Hey, say something?!" Selena cried out in a panic, trying to pat Stevan on the back.
Stevan raised one hand, making a calming gesture.
Selena swallowed hard in panic as she saw him struggling to breathe, but before she could ask anything else, Stevan pushed her slightly away.
At that very moment, Selena felt Stevan’s back—which she was holding—harden. Something seemed to thicken and move; his skin felt taut, and it made Selena’s eyes widen.
"Stevan? Do you feel uncomfortable? Tell me..."
Stevan shook his head slowly, but didn’t answer as his body grew increasingly tense and larger. At the same time, Selena saw Stevan’s clothes begin to tighten and tear, revealing his muscular, well-defined skin, which was slowly turning green.
Selena’s eyes widened, and she took a few steps back as she watched Stevan slowly transform into a dragon. His body grew larger and longer, and gradually, half of his body completely changed shape.
Selena felt very small in front of him, so she had to look up to see Stevan, who was slowly opening his eyes and looking at his own hands, now massive and powerful.
"Ste—Stevan?" Selena called out hesitantly.
Was this man about to turn violent? Was he going to tear Selena to pieces? Oh no—he was enormous and terrifying, even though his face was still Stevan’s.
But now that he had transformed into a dragon, Selena had no idea whose consciousness was inside him. He could very well become a demon and destroy Selena in the blink of an eye!
"Crazy! It’s been so long since I’ve felt my body this strong!" Stevan finally spoke, his voice echoing slightly. "Selena, I’ve finally broken through to the eighth level! Only two more levels to go before I reach master-level strength! All this time, I’d been stuck at level 6! Your potion is truly excellent and effective!"
Selena finally let out a sigh of relief. "Is any part of your body feeling hard as a rock? I want to know—try to really feel it!" Selena said a little more loudly.
Stevan swished his tail and carefully scanned his entire body before looking at Selena.
"No, my body actually feels incredibly flexible! It seems like I can move wherever I want. It’s been so long since my body felt this comfortable—ever since I was cursed with extinction, even the slightest movement used to cause me pain. Selena, your potion is amazing! You’re truly extraordinary!" said Stevan, then glided away nimbly.
This made Selena feel relieved again; she sat back down in her chair and drank the fermented honey water because she felt completely drained from the shock of what had happened to Stevan.
"In that case, the test was a success. I’ll develop this medicine, but there’s no guarantee it will be the only cure that can fully heal you," Selena said seriously.
Stevan, still flying, moved joyfully back and forth across the entire room before coming right up to her.
"This isn’t the only cure? But it’s incredibly effective!" he said with a happy expression.
Selena nodded. "That’s true—it does seem very effective. But this remedy has a limited duration and short-lived effects. Besides, since you’re still almost entirely in dragon form, that means this remedy isn’t perfect yet. You can’t go anywhere in that form, so we still need to figure out how to create a more effective remedy for you," she said, taking another sip of the honey water.
Stevan was silent for a moment, then nodded. "You’re right," he replied, looking at Selena. "At least there’s hope for my recovery—I’m so relieved. You can tell me what you need to make this medicine; I’ll do my best to get it."
Selena gave a small smile, then opened another medicine container and took out a pill she had prepared. She motioned for Stevan to come closer, and he shifted his body until he was three spans from Selena’s face.
"Open your mouth," Selena said, holding out the pill.
Stevan smiled and obeyed, letting it slide smoothly into his mouth. After swallowing it, Stevan felt a slight heat in his body, causing him to squirm. But Selena simply watched as he grimaced in pain.
"What’s wrong with me? Why does my body feel so hot?" he hissed, whimpering softly.
"Stay calm, don’t fight the heat. Just a little longer, wait just a little longer..."
Stevan closed his eyes, calmly enduring the agony until the heat and pain in his body began to subside.
Before long, his body shrank back to its human form. Stevan felt someone pull him, and then his somewhat weak body slumped into his throne. Only then did he open his eyes and take a deep breath—the transformation had happened so quickly that he hadn’t been prepared for it.
Selena took his hand; instinctively, she checked his pulse and was relieved to find it was normal. Pouring some fermented honey water, Selena helped him drink it before sitting back down in her chair.
"You can’t take this medicine directly yet, but you can use it in an emergency. If a war were to break out at the border, you could go there immediately and oversee the situation," Selena said, causing Stevan to look at her.
"Can I fight and use the Dragon Core?"
Selena shook her head. "There’s no need to use that until I find a remedy that can truly stop your body from turning to stone. Aren’t you the king? When do kings ever enter the battlefield themselves? At the very least, you must have an army," Selena said, making Stevan grimace.
"You’re right. I do have an army—it’s divided into several units—and my personal assistant is also incredibly capable. He can take my place in battle; I really don’t have to fight the enemy head-on," he replied with a silly grin.
Selena rolled her eyes wearily; for some reason, talking to this one of her husbands felt so annoying. They seemed to act stupid in front of her, even though they should surely have some wisdom and knowledge since they’d been kings for so long.
Were they deliberately acting so stupid in front of her just to get her attention? Tsk!
"In that case, I’m done here. I’m leaving now—it’s starting to get dark," Selena said flatly, then stood up.
Stevan stood up as well, positioning himself in front of her and clasping his hands together in a pleading gesture.
"Don’t be mad at me—I’m an idiot... I realize I made you angry and upset earlier, but that wasn’t my intention. I just asked on a whim if I could fight because I was feeling excited," he pleaded.
Selena snorted, then crossed her arms, glaring at Stevan with a warning look. This made Stevan wince and bow several times, begging for forgiveness.
"I promise it won’t happen again. I’ll be more reasonable next time. Don’t be upset with me, Queen..."
