Chapter 65: Two Li Family Members are Critically Ill
The voice didn't interrupt Chen Dong.
Blood and brain matter oozed from the finger-sized hole in Sun Yuanjing's forehead. His eyes, wide and unresigned, stared blankly as he slowly collapsed.
"Didn't you hear my senior brother? He told you to stop, and you still killed him!"
As the arrogant, imperious female voice faded, three figures emerged.
Two men and a woman, and all three were Grandmasters!
The trio were all dressed in martial arts uniforms and appeared to be in their mid-twenties.
The man in the lead was heroic and handsome, while the other was a foppish pretty-boy. The woman was arrogant and willful, with a childish look on her face.
"Are you deaf? Didn't you hear what I said?" the woman repeated, stepping past the two men and pointing at Chen Dong.
Chen Dong eyed them coldly. "Are you with him?" His voice was laced with killing intent.
The lead man spoke with an air of righteousness. "You misunderstand. We were just passing by and saw your ruthless methods. We only wished to save this old man."
"If that's not the case, then I suggest you mind your own business!"
Seeing how arrogant Chen Dong was, the woman planted a hand on her hip and pointed at him again. "My senior brother told you not to kill him, and you did it anyway. Are you looking for death?"
Chen Dong's brow furrowed, his voice turning to ice. "Since you want to be heroes and right a perceived wrong, then come at me together. I'm in a hurry!"
Chen Dong's words further infuriated the woman. She took a step forward, about to strike, but the lead man stopped her with an outstretched arm.
"The man is dead," he said. "There's no need for us to create more trouble."
Chen Dong shot the three of them a glance. "Good."
With that, he picked up the ancient sword from Sun Yuanjing's back, turned, and left.
The eyes of the foppish man beside them glinted. He whispered to the lead man, "Senior Brother, that sword... it's a Divine Artifact! Should we go after him...?"
The lead man shook his head. "I recognized that old man. That was Sun Yuanjing of the Sun Family, one of the most powerful Grandmasters. For this young man to kill him so easily, his strength must be immense. We have a mission; there's no need to stir up unnecessary trouble."
"No matter how powerful he is, he can't be stronger than you, Senior Brother! I don't believe it for a second!" the woman retorted.
When Chen Dong rushed back to the Li Manor, he found the grounds in complete disarray and utterly deserted.
Chen Dong's heart leaped into his throat. He quickly pulled out his phone and called Li Huiran.
The moment the call connected, he heard Li Huiran sobbing. "Chen Dong, you have to come quick! My mom and Grandpa... they're not going to make it!"
Chen Dong didn't have time to think. "Where are you?" he demanded.
"Jiangzhou First Hospital..."
The color drained from Chen Dong's face. "Did you touch the Silver Needles?"
Li Huiran's voice trembled. "They're in the intensive care unit... they're trying to save them, but they won't let us in. I told the doctors... but they didn't take it seriously and had someone pull out the Silver Needles..."
Chen Dong's face darkened. "I can get there in five minutes. In the meantime, try to get the Silver Needles put back, or do something to sustain their vital energy."
With that, Chen Dong hung up and raced toward the hospital.
「Inside Jiangzhou First Hospital.」
Li Huiran clutched her phone, her eyes red and swollen. When she saw a doctor walk out of the intensive care unit, she hurried over to him. "Dr. Zhong, can you please put the Silver Needles you removed back in?"
Dr. Zhong, a man in his forties with a bald forehead beaded with sweat, had just moved heaven and earth to stabilize his two patients' vitals.
He glanced at Li Huiran. "Miss Li, I don't know where you got those Silver Needles, but they were completely useless. There was no rhyme or reason to their placement. I know a little about traditional Chinese medicine myself, you know."
"If you weren't the one who put them in, then you've been scammed! There are far too many of these quacks and charlatans peddling their strange snake oil these days!"
Seeing that Xia Yi and Li Qinghe's conditions had stabilized for the moment, Li Huiran bit her lip and said nothing.
Li Jianwen, who was standing nearby, added, "Huiran, you need to trust the doctors. They're the professionals."
Just then, their conditions became critical again. Li Qinghe coughed up a great mouthful of blood.
The attending nurse cried out, "Dr. Zhong, the patients are crashing again!"
"Prep for resuscitation again, now!" Dr. Zhong commanded, spinning around to head back into the ICU.
Li Huiran cried out, "Dr. Zhong, please, put the Silver Needles back!"
"Absurd!" the doctor snapped, striding quickly back into the room.
Li Huiran's eyes were bloodshot, and she gripped her phone so tightly she nearly crushed it. 'I should have trusted Chen Dong more,' she thought, blaming herself relentlessly.
'Her grandfather had been critically ill before, too, and there was Tang Dan's condition—Chen Dong had cured them both. I should have fought tooth and nail to stop the doctors from removing the Silver Needles.'
Li Jianwen was distraught. "How could this be happening?!"
'Bringing them to the hospital made things worse!'
Just then, a middle-aged woman approached with brisk steps.
When Li Jianwen saw her, it was as if he'd seen a ray of hope. He rushed over to her.
This woman was none other than Jiang Yao, the most famous doctor of Western medicine in all of Jiangzhou.
Li Jianwen said, his voice frantic, "Dr. Jiang, I'm begging you, you have to save my father and my wife!"
Jiang Yao glanced at the scene inside, her expression puzzled.
"Mr. Li, you asked me to come, but I'm afraid there's nothing I can do. The doctor inside is already doing everything that can be done. In my opinion, it's all futile. The fact that they've held on this long is already a medical miracle!"
Jiang Yao asked, her confusion growing, "Did you use some sort of method to prolong their vital signs?"
"It must have been the Silver Needles!" Li Huiran suddenly exclaimed.
