Heavenly Illusions

Chapter 28- Pleasant To Listen To

Xai Lin could only think in this absurd direction. But almost immediately, she dismissed this thought.

If An Mo was truly the result of some human cultivator’s experiment, then his very existence should have been intolerable by the Heavenly Dao, and he’d have been struck down by Heavenly Tribulation the moment he came into existence.

Rather than such a thing, it felt more like he was blessed by the Heavenly Dao.

Hiss!

Xai Lin couldn’t help but sucked in a cold breath of air internally at the thought that suddenly sprung up in her mind.

‘Could it be possible that this brat’s original form is just like the Divine Monkey King from my past life?’

In her past life, Xai Lin had an ancestry richer than most.

He grew up in China with his mother, a woman of Malaysian-Chinese descent, who worked as a Chinese history professor at Peking University. Meanwhile, his father was of Korean-American descent, who worked as an Archeologist all over the world, and would sometime send him back a few strange things.

Because of this, it was hard for him not to have some form of fascination with ancient history, though that soon transformed into a fervor passion for myths and legends. With his favorite being Sun Wukong’s ‘Journey to the West’.

Forget reading those web novels and comics about him, she had even read the original story.

It was said that Sun Wukong was born from a stone that developed a womb after absorbing the Yin from Heaven and the Yang from Earth.

Looking at An Mo’s monkey appearance that resembled Sun Wukong, Xai Lin couldn’t help but believe her guess slightly. It was just that An Mo’s fur was a bright orange color instead of golden, while he was missing his Summersault Cloud, and Riyu Bang. Though that could be explained by the fact that Sun Wukong had learnt the Summersault Cloud technique from his master Puti Zushi, while the Ruyi Bang was obtained after Sun Wukong stole it from the Dragon Race.

No wait...

Even if Xai Lin could concoct this somewhat believable theory, for the life of her she could not explain the golden symbols that were around An Mo’s forehead in the shape of a band. She was almost certain that it was similar to the circlet the Guanyin Buddha used to keep Sun Wukong in check.

But how was that even possible?!

And as for why An Mo could possess the bloodline of a Three-legged Divine Crow, along with a Divine Black Tortoise and a Qilin’s, perhaps all three Divine Beasts had passed by the stone birthing An Mo and decided to leave their bloodlines there for whatever reason.

Damn it, don’t ask her to explain such an absurd situation!

The more Xai Lin tried to make sense of this, the more her memories from her past life clashed with the logic of this cultivation world, making her dizzy and confused.

Maybe... Just maybe... All those myths and legends she had loved to read in her past life were plagiarized from the cultivation world, which were then twisted and distorted beyond recognition. If so, she could forget about using her past life’s knowledge to explain the logic of this vast cultivation world. It would only make her seem stupid.

With a heavy heart, Xai Lin finally gave up resisting. She would no longer dwell on trying to explain familiar concepts from her past life that she saw in this world and just accept them for what they were.

“Xai-xai, are you alright?”

Seeing that Xai Lin had fallen into deep thought, An Mo didn’t bother her at first, but seeing her expression slowly becoming more dazed, he couldn’t help but call out.

Xai Lin finally snapped out of her thoughts, and looked at An Mo.

“Ehem, sorry. I’m fine. I was just trying to make sense of why your Legacy Memories were different from your abilities.”

“Oh. Did you come up with anything?”

An Mo asked with his head tilted— His bright golden eyes, which were filled with curiosity, were focused on Xai Lin’s small face.

Xai Lin hesitated for a few seconds then spoke.

“I’m not too sure, I just think your birth likely occurred under some special circumstances.”

An Mo nodded when he heard that, then softly added.

“Yeah, it seems I was born to no parents. Which is strange...”

Hearing this, Xai Lin reached up and patted An Mo’s head.

An Mo paused for a moment, then smiled and leaned forward to rest his head on Xai Lin’s shoulder. Laughing he said.

“I’m not sad about those years anymore. After all, I have you now...”

Hearing this, Xai Lin couldn’t help but tap the back of An Mo’s head with her finger and say.

“It seems your sweet talk is getting better and better. Sooner or later, that mouth of yours might start producing honey.”

“Hehehe... Not just my mouth. My whole body will start producing honey soon. If you don’t believe me, you can take a bite anywhere and see if it tastes sweet.”

Xai Lin rolled her eyes in response. It seems this brat had also become more shameless.

“Oh, right! Little Xai, you also wanted to know my abilities, right?”

“Hm... It will make it easier for me to make plans going forward.”

“Ah... Do you mean stealing treasures?”

An Mo could guess this judging by what Xai Lin had said before about her sneaking into that Sikong’s Sect Secret Realm to steal treasures.

“Yeah...”

Xai Lin didn’t explain why she had to go around stealing treasures, but An Mo didn’t even think to ask for a reason. As long as he was with Xai Lin, he would be fine going anywhere.

With that, An Mo began explaining his abilities while still hugging Xai Lin.

“You’ve seen most of them before. For my Three-legged Divine Crow bloodline, I have my Myriad Dao Eyes and my Void Crossing ability—”

“Wait, didn’t you say those abilities weren’t in your Legacy Memories? Where did their names come from?”

Xai Lin suddenly interrupted An Mo.

Pursing his lips, An Mo buried his head in the crook of Xai Lin’s neck and whispered.

“I—I Named them myself.”

Upon hearing this, Xai Lin let out a burst of laughter.

“No wonder they sounded so childish... Hahaha...”

Xai Lin’s clear, bell-like laughter entered An Mo’s ears, and a tingling sensation wormed its way into his ear and finally settled in his heart.

Even though An Mo was a bit embarrassed being laughed at, he still liked hearing Xai Lin laugh.

It really sounded pleasant to listen to.

Feigning anger, An Mo said.

“Bad Little Xai! You’re not allowed to mock my names!”

Upon hearing this, Xai Lin decided to ignore An Mo treating her like some little pet and instead began coaxing him.

“Alright, alright. I won’t laugh at them, continue.”
