Heavenly Illusions

Chapter 24- A Twisted Ear

Xai Lin shook her head and recovered somewhat. Looking at Sikong, her expression became serious as she said.

“It’s not impossible for us to let this matter go.”

Upon hearing this, An Mo pouted in dissatisfaction, but he still chose to listen to his Xai-xai on this issue.

Sikong’s eyes lit up when he heard Xai Lin’s words; however, before he could say anything, Xai Lin coldly cut him off.

“However, you have to swear a Dao Oath!”

As soon as Xai Lin’s voice fell, Sikong decisively followed.

“I swear by the Heavens that, I, Su Sikong, the eldest Young Master of the Su family and the Holy Son of the Earthly Spear Sect, will never trouble fellow Daoist Xai Lin and fellow Daoist An Mo for the Chaos Tower treasure, or seek revenge on them in the future. If I break this Dao Oath, may I experience spirit flying away and soul scattering— never to be reincarnated in the future!”

Boom!

In only the sight of the parties involved in the Dao Oath, a flash of lightning streaked across the sky before a low rumble of thunder loudly echoed in the three youth’s ears.

Hiss!

Xai Lin couldn’t help but silently sucked in a breath of cold air when she heard Sikong’s Dao Oath.

No, this time she was truly too shocked by this so-called “main protagonist”. He didn’t even hesitate for a second when making such a vicious Dao Oath!

One should know that such a Dao Oath was overseen by the Heavenly Dao itself, even if he was a son favored by the Heavens, he would undoubtedly die if he broke it.

So, in other words, this Sikong had decisively given up on the Chaos Tower.

But how was that possible?

Xai Lin could not understand what was going on. In the book, Heavenly Illusions, when she read Sikong’s story arc, he was described as a proud son of heaven, who was unyielding in the face of danger and adversity, and would stop at nothing in the pursuit of Immortal Ascension.

In Xai Lin’s perception, this Sikong should be holding his head high, confronting them in a life and death duel to regain the Chaos Tower that had been stolen from him, not lying on the ground so pathetically while swearing a vicious Dao Oath to escape danger.

Xai Lin fell into confusion.

‘What’s going on? How is he so different from what the book claims? Is it that he doesn’t know the value of the Chaos Tower, so he felt it wasn’t worth facing them for it? No, even if he had only obtained the Chaos Tower for a short time before I stole it, he should have felt its uniqueness. Or else he wouldn’t have wasted his grandfather Spear Intent Imprint to leave a mark on it, then chase me all the way to the Demonic Realm and lay in ambush for several days.’

The more Xai Lin thought about it, the more confused she became.

However, an answer was quietly lurking in the back of her mind. An answer she had long said and thought of countless times since reincarnating into this book.

That answer was... that was a book made for entertainment, while this world was real.

If her theory that the book she read in a past life was merely plagiarizing people’s life in this cultivation world, then it could be possible that the events and characters in that book were exaggerated or changed to fit that author’s preferences.

Looking at Sikong now, Xai Lin was slowly starting to believe this was the case.

She was only able to confirm this now, because she had avoided the Heavenly Dao’s influence and avoided Han Gu Wei within her Sect.

But knowing this now made her realize a horrible possibility. The events and opportunities she could confidently recall might differ from her memory in how they were obtained by those protagonists, or worse, some of them might not even exist!

Though, after thinking for a moment, she concluded that the initial opportunities those protagonists received, which accompany them throughout their story arc— for example this Sikong’s Chaos Tower— should be real.

So, perhaps only those smaller opportunities might be non-cannon events.

But even with that said, Xai Lin knew that her memories of that book from her past life had just become a lot more unreliable, which was somewhat frustrating.

Xai Lin’s thoughts came and went in a flash, with none of them showing on her beautiful face. Nodding, she said.

“Since you made this Dao Oath, we can let you off.”

Sikong, upon hearing this, had his taut nerves fully relaxed. Thankfully, he had managed to preserve his life. It would have been a pity if he died here and left such a good life behind. Not to mention his outstanding talent and background, how could he give up his life here when he had such a beautiful fiancée waiting for him?

However, just when Sikong wanted to stand up and express his thanks, a sinister voice suddenly drilled into his ears and chilled his heart.

“Right, we won’t make things difficult for you. Just take one of my kicks and get lost.”

Before An Mo’s words could even finish coming out of his mouth, his figure had already flashed in front of Sikong.

Sikong only felt a blur before his eyes before a strong impact slammed onto his chest and sent him flying back down into the massive pit behind him.

As a cloud of dust rose within the pit, An Mo retracted his foot while coldly looking at Sikong through the rising dust.

Upon seeing this scene, Xai Lin frowned and stomped over to An Mo. After grabbing his ear, she twisted it while angrily rebuking.

“Damn brat! Did I not make my intentions clear to avoid further conflict?!”

“Hiss! Ouch! Ouch! Xai Lin, no, don’t! Stop! My ear is going to be ripped off!”

An Mo immediately let out a series of miserable wails.

It felt like Xai Lin hadn’t held back a single ounce of her strength when twisting his ear.

Even though his physical body was far greater than his cultivation realm, especially in this Divine Monkey King form, his ear was too vulnerable. In addition to this, Xai Lin’s strength was not to be underestimated.

So, An Mo truly felt like his ear was going to be torn off. He hurriedly held Xai Lin’s wrist and followed her movements as she pulled on his ear. By the time Xai Lin finally let go, his eyes were filled with tears while his face was twisted into a pained and aggrieved expression.

Rubbing his ear, An Mo looked at Xai Lin and said pitifully.

“Xai Lin, you’re so heartless! I only kicked him because he hurt you so badly, yet you respond by treating me so harshly!”

Xai Lin, who had her hands on her hips while glaring at An Mo, heard this and saw his pitiful expression. Almost instantly, her heart involuntarily softened.

Looking at his redden ear between his fingers, she sighed in defeat before stepping forward to check on his ear.

“Move your hand and let me see.”

An Mo moved his hand away from his ear and leaned forward slightly so Xai Lin could better see his ear.

While examining An Mo’s ear, Xai Lin tentatively touched it, and An Mo flinched each time.

Seeing this, Xai Lin realized she had indeed used too much strength when twisting his ear. She had been too anxious and hadn’t gage her strength.

“I’m sorry for twisting it so hard.”

Xai Lin softly apologized, feeling a bit of guilt toward An Mo. She then wrapped her hand in her blue Spiritual Qi and pressed it against An Mo’s ear.

“...Hm. It’s fine...”

Hearing An Mo’s soft reply, Xai Lin knew he was still a bit upset with her.
