Chapter 23- One Should Know How to Bend and Stretch

“What? Don’t want to?”

Xai Lin let go of An Mo and looked up at him with raised eyebrows.

An Mo dodged Xai Lin’s gaze and scratched the orange fur on the back of his head. The fur on his cheeks seemed to become brighter than before, and even the freckles that still remain even in this form seem to have become more prominent. However, after only a few seconds, An Mo made a decision in his heart and mustered up the courage to turn to meet Xai Lin’s gaze and said firmly.

“Okay, if it’s you, then I don’t mind. Let’s never separate from now on.”

Under An Mo’s serious golden eyes, Xai Lin couldn’t help but turn her head away and rubbed her nose.

It was a bit impulsive on her part, but after listening to this kid’s words just now and thinking back on the past few days, she felt it wouldn’t be so bad to always be together with him.

But honestly, never did she think she would suddenly take the initiative to confess to this brat.

That’s right, what she actually meant by those words was for them to become Dao Partners. Thankfully, this brat seemed to understand her words and even agreed.

But wasn’t he being a bit too serious?

It’s just becoming Dao Partners. It wouldn’t even change how they interacted up until now.

....

“Crazy...”

Not far away, Sikong had just crawled up out of the pit only to witness this scene of an aggrieved wife being comforted by a doting husband. Only, the roles were reversed, and the current situation was far from ideal to stage such a performance.

No, it seemed the situation had now transformed into a confession scene halfway through.

Sikong turned away and coughed up a mouthful of blood, before slowly getting up. The left side of his face was numb, and his internal organs felt like they were on fire.

He quickly took out a medicinal pill similar to the one Xai Lin had used and plopped it into his mouth. As the medicinal pill started to take effect, the burning sensation from his internal organs finally began to lessen quite a bit.

However, the area on his face that was slapped by that Spirit Beast was still throbbing with pain.

‘Such terrifying physical strength. Even with our cultivation base being two minor realms apart, I’m still no match for him.’

And this wasn’t even mentioning the suppression within this Demonic Realm on him, which further weakened him.

‘If I wasn’t wearing the Golden Cicada inner robe grandfather gave me, my bones would have been broken from that fall. Quick! I need to return to that stream and leave this place. Maybe in the future I can return to claim that treasure, but only if I survive now would I have such a chance.’

Sikong decided to slip away while those two were absorbed in their own world. If he had to fight them both together, he would not be able to escape. As for his trump card, this was not the Human Realm but the Demonic Realm. If he dared to carelessly use his grandfather’s Spear Intent Imprint here and alert some old monster, he would be in far more danger.

So, the words he had spoken to his little brother and fiancée to assure them were nothing more than hollow platitudes to appease them. Just staying here was already dangerous, much less facing these two. He had to leave quickly!

Sikong took one last glance at the flirting couple before he turned to leave, however, that one glance made all the hair on his body stand up.

At some unknown time, those two pairs of eyes, one with a deep blue color and another with a vibrant gold color, were staring at him.

The blue pair of eyes seemed to be filled with caution, but that pair of golden eyes made his heart palpitate with fear.

“I—”

Sikong unconsciously took a step back but almost fell into the pit behind him.

After stabilizing his footing, he turned to see that those two were approaching him. Immediately, he began to sweat from nervousness. However, he quickly composed his expression and buried his fear and nervousness in his heart.

Circulating his Spiritual Qi in preparation for a fight, Sikong coldly looked at the two, who had stopped some distance away and said.

“Fellow Daoists, let’s settle this matter peacefully. If you let me go, I am willing to offer that trea—”

However, before Sikong could finish, An Mo snorted and said disdainfully.

“You bastard, do you think you can just leave after attacking Xai Lin?”

If it wasn’t for Xai Lin holding him back, An Mo would have already rush up to attack this human. Xai Lin said he couldn’t be killed, but she didn’t say he couldn’t beat him half to death.

Sikong feigned calmness as he swept his gaze over the uninjured Xai Lin and said.

“From what I see, she seems completely fine. As for myself, I’m severely injured. Even just standing here talking to you requires immense effort on my part.”

An Mo stared at Sikong’s calm expression, then let out a scoff before saying with a sneer.

“Heh. From what I see, you’re barely injured from that fall. You should be wearing some protective treasure, or else you wouldn’t have been able to stand here and talk to us in the first place.”

Upon hearing that, Sikong’s body stiffen.

After a moment of silence, Xai Lin and An Mo watched in confusion as Sikong’s face, that was beginning to regain its color, gradually turn pale. Then, with a “wah” sound, they saw him coughed up a mouthful of bright red blood before keeling over to the side.

Xai Lin: ...

An Mo: ...

An Mo looked at Sikong with a bewildered expression.

“You—”

He tried to speak, but he didn’t know what to say for a moment.

After falling to the ground, Sikong tried to stand up, but his body seemed to lack strength as he fell back down. With a deathly pale face, he looked up at An Mo and Xai Lin and said.

“Fellow Daoists, let’s just let this matter rest. Since that treasure has no fate with me, I’ll consider it my loss and won’t persist in regaining it anymore. After all, in this world, one should not force things if they are not meant to be. After we go our separate ways, if we happen to meet again on this long road of cultivation, I’ll offer you two heros a drink. What do you say?”

An Mo stared at Sikong who was playing out a farewell drama all by himself, his expression slowly becoming indescribable.

Xai Lin’s expression wasn’t much better. This main protagonist was quite different from what she had expected him to be.

While staring at Sikong with a strange expression, she wondered if An Mo’s slap had directly knocked him silly. Or perhaps he had knocked him down to become a side character like herself?

An Mo was also wondering if he had damaged this guy’s brain, so he couldn’t help but cast worried glances at Sikong’s head a few times.

Sikong could obviously see the type of expressions and gazes they were directing at him, but he didn’t care. One should know how to bend and stretch when one meets with difficult situations. And he considered himself someone who was extremely flexible.
