Heavenly Illusions

Chapter 10- A Backup Plan

The Heaven and Earth Scripture was extremely compatible with the Heaven and Earth Dao Body, and even the Immortal Ancestor had this innate Dao Body as well, so Xai Lin easily obtained this golden finger.

After obtaining it, she cultivated it like a madwoman, barely eating and sleeping for five whole years. This technique was a cultivation technique with supplementary Divine Arts within it. Within the five years, she spent most of her time mastering those Divine Arts.

Among those Divine Arts, the most powerful one was undoubtedly the Heavenly Transformation Technique.

With just a drop of blood, one could analyze, deconstruct, and integrate a Spirit Beast’s bloodline into their body, while gaining the ability to transform into their original forms. Though one only gains their form, and not their true essence. So, a cultivator or a Demonic Beast with a powerful Divine Soul, or a Spirit Beast with a unique ability related to insight, could potentially detect that her soul was human.

But with that said, it was significantly harder for a cultivator or Demonic Beast to see through the Heavenly Transformation Technique using their Divine Soul, than it is for a Spirit Beast with some unique ability.

However, the Heavenly Transformation Technique’s heaven defying ability didn’t end there. A slightly inferior aspect was that one can also transform into other people, but without being able to obtain that person’s Innate Dao Body, or natural talents. However, an upside to this aspect was that she was able to perfectly replicate this person’s soul fluctuations after transforming into them, and she only needed a single strand of hair to be able to accomplish all of this!

Xai Ling was especially thankful for this aspect as it was with this ability that she was able to sneak out of her Sect and escape her fate of being played to death with by the main protagonist.

As for why she still needed to escape after stealing the main protagonist’s golden finger, well as the saying goes, heaven never closes off all paths.

From ages ten to thirteen she used the Sect’s influence to obtain blood from several Spiritual Beasts with traces of Divine Beast bloodline, and even the blood of some Divine Beasts from legends. With such a start, she had been confident that she could face the protagonist, who had his first golden finger stolen from him. But who would have known that during that disciple selection ceremony, the Immortal Ancestor’s Divine Thought was still drawn out by him, who then bestowed him with a cultivation technique that the Immortal Ancestor had personally created after gaining insight while transcending to the Immortal Realm?

God knows how dumbfounded she was when she witnessed that scene. Even now, just thinking about it would make her grind her small teeth in frustration.

But it was with that incident that she realized this world wasn’t merely a predetermined novel and it had its own cause and effect.

The good news about this was that it meant she could safely detach herself from her fate, but the bad news was that it meant the main protagonist was destined to rise.

So even though she wouldn’t actively target the main protagonist and form an enmity with him, there was undoubtedly some mysterious power in this world that would draw them closer if nothing was done to change it. Whether that power would draw them closer as enemies, or for her to become one of his women in his harem, she was unwilling to accept both, so after a few months of dodging the main protagonist and failing, she decisively left.

That was a year ago, and now a year later, aside from making sure to send messages back to her father and brothers in the Sect, she had no connection to her identity as the youngest daughter of the Mountains and Seas Immortal Sect. She had even gone out of her way to traverse several regions in the Human Realm. Now, there are nearly a dozen regions between her and her Sect, with each region spanning tens of millions of kilometers, and others with deep oceans between them.

She was just one step away from breaking the realm wall and traveling to another Human Realm. The only thing that was stopping her was that she would find it more difficult to send back messages to her family in the Sect, and she didn’t want to worry them. Another reason was that a few protagonists from the book were within this Human Realm, and she wanted to steal their opportunities. She had a hypothesis that the more opportunities she obtained, the less the mysterious power, she suspected was the Heavenly Dao, could affect her.

Xai Lin didn’t know if An Mo’s bloodline could help lessen the effect of the Heavenly Dao on her, but she did know that his abilities could allow her to more easily obtain the protagonists’ more troublesome opportunities.

As the Heaven and Earth Scripture’s Heavenly Transformation Technique activated and began analyzing An Mo’s blood, Xai Lin excitedly waited.

She waited... and waited... and waited some more...

After several minutes of silence, the excitement in Xai Lin’s heart faded as she opened her eyes. In those sparkling blue eyes, a look of confusion slowly emerged.

This had never happened before when she used the Heavenly Transformation Technique. It felt like what she swallowed was not the blood of a Spirit Beast but a...

No, that’s wrong. This situation had actually occurred before when she was first learning and experimenting with the Heavenly Transformation Technique. She had wanted to know the limitations of the technique, so she had swallowed all sorts of beast blood.

A few conclusions she came to was that for Demonic Beasts that had an ordinary bloodline with no special ability, she could still transform into their original form, but she wouldn’t get any abilities. With Spirit Beasts that had inherited a specific bloodline from some Mythical Divine Beasts, she could obtain that bloodline and depending on the purity of said bloodline, she could obtain partial, or the full abilities within that bloodline. But regardless of the purity of the bloodline, she could always obtain the Spirit Beast’s original form, as the technique was able to cast aside the dregs and integrate the purest part of the bloodline into her body. This was not even mentioning those Demonic Beast that had no special bloodline to purify.

So, she was never unable to obtain a Spiritual Beast or Demonic Beast original form. The only occasion where she was unable to get the original form of a beast was from Demonic Beasts that had a mutated bloodline.

The Heaven and Earth Scripture were referencing “The Classics of Mountains and Seas” from her past life, where it detailed several mythical animals. So, if a Demonic Beast had a mutated bloodline outside of the orthodox creatures in “The Classics of Mountain and Seas”, the Heaven and Earth Scripture would be unable to analyze its bloodline, much less deconstruct it, and integrated it into her body.

However, how was this situation comparable to a Demonic Beast’s mutated bloodline? Was it not obvious that this Spirit Beast named An Mo had two Mythical Divine Beast bloodlines? Where was it a mutated bloodline?

‘No! Could it be that it’s considered a mutated bloodline exactly because its two Mythical Beasts bloodlines combined together?’

Xai Lin’s beautiful brows furrowed in thought.

An Mo seeing her so silent stayed silent himself. When he saw her furrowed her brow, he got a bit nervous.

“Hey, is everything okay?”

Xai Lin snapped out of her thoughts upon hearing An Mo’s voice, she looked at him and narrowed her eyes in suspicion.

An Mo got even more nervous because of this.

“Seriously, what’s wrong? Didn’t you get my bloodline?”

Xai Lin finally withdrew her scrutinizing gaze, then said while shaking her head.

“No, my technique was unable to analyze your bloodline. It should be because it’s too pure; pure to the point that when they combine together, they create an entirely different bloodline.”

“Oh...”

An Mo couldn’t really understand what Xai Lin meant, so he only answered like this. While rubbing his fingertips nervously, and working up the courage to make his request, he heard Xai Lin suddenly speak again.

“Well, it’s no wonder your human form is so peculiar.”

Xai Lin swept a glance over An Mo’s cheeks dotted with freckles and his bright orange hair that looked to be on the verge of turning red.

An Mo instinctively touched his fluffy hair but then pursed his lips in dissatisfaction.

“What’s wrong with my appearance?”

Xai Lin shook her head.

“It’s vastly different from a normal Spirit Beast’s human form, but not in a bad way. It’s quite a unique look. If you were put in a crowd as a distraction, you’d be immediately effective...”

Xai Lin suddenly paused, and her eyes flickered for a moment. She stared intently at An Mo’s eye-catching appearance, and a bold thought surfaced in her mind as a backup plan.
