Heavenly Illusions

Chapter 9- The Fate of a Cannonfodder Villain

Golden light appeared around An Mo’s tortoise form, and as if in resonance, golden runes also appeared on Xai Lin’s smooth, pale white skin.

After only a brief moment, the golden runes on her body crumbled into sparks of golden light and drifted away in the wind.

Xai Lin observed those runes closely, but no matter how hard she looked, she couldn’t figure out the principles behind them. Even though her overall foundation in Rune Inscriptions were shallow, she still had a bit of mastery in aspects of sealing runes. However, these sealing runes were nothing like the ones she was familiar with in the Human Realm.

It was like encountering a completely different language, one from the Demonic Race. But in addition to this, the language seemed to be archaic. Meaning, it would be way older than the language currently used by the Demonic Race.

With those two layers of barrier, it was no wonder Xai Lin couldn’t make heads or tails of those sealing runes.

However, she was far from disappointed. After all, wouldn’t she have plenty of time learning them after gaining this ability?

The excitement and greed in Xai Lin’s heart was almost uncontrollable. With these bloodline abilities, her power should increase by a significant margin, enough to protect herself, or at least hide away when danger arrives at her doorstep!

An Mo did not fail to see the emotions in Xai Lin’s eyes as she looked at him, after all she made no attempt to hide them.

He didn’t know why, but he felt a bit disappointed.

Was it because Xai Lin only wanted to talk to him because she wanted his bloodline?

After she got it, would she leave him here?

Was he really going to go back to being all alone here again?

An Mo was unwilling... He was really, really unwilling.

Thinking back on his deal with Xai Lin, An Mo immediately made up his mind on what to request.

With a thought, An Mo transformed back into his human form. This time, a layer of black feathers blocked a would-be embarrassing sight in front of his lower half, though the less embarrassing back was left exposed.

“So, all you need is a drop of my blood, right?”

An Mo wore a serious expression on his face when he asked this, which caused Xai Lin to momentarily pause. She could sense that An Mo’s emotions had changed somewhat, and a bit of unfamiliarity arose in her heart.

She realized this brat was too strange. One moment he was as boisterous as an erupting volcano, while at other times he was as docile as a lamb. Now, with such a serious expression on his cute little face, he gave off the feeling of a calm and dignified youth. It was in no way inferior to the young masters of noble clans, and prideful sons of heaven from major Sects she had seen in the Human Realm.

Xai Lin instinctively spoke a few words to settle An Mo’s overly tense and serious mood.

“Relax, I won’t go back on my word. Even if I’m somehow unable to obtain your bloodline, the deal still stands.”

Upon hearing this, An Mo released a small breath of relief and his tense shoulders relaxed.

Indeed, he had thought of the possibility of Xai Lin being unable to obtain his bloodline, and she would call off the deal before leaving him here all alone. Now that he had gotten her assurance, he was visibly more relaxed.

“That’s what you said!”

After saying that, An Mo placed one of his fingers in his mouth. One of his canine teeth extended by several millimeters into a sharp point before poking a small hole in tip of his index finger.

Xai Lin didn’t notice this small change of his teeth as An Mo had covered it by closing his mouth.

If she had, she would have immediately realized this was a partial transformation, similar to the black feathers covering his lower half. But neither of An Mo’s Three-legged Divine Crow form nor his Divine Tortoise form had sharp teeth! Which meant he had more than two Divine Forms!

As for why An Mo would hide this fact from Xai Lin, he just instinctively felt that he should.

What happened later proved that An Mo’s instincts were on point!

Having bitten his finger, deep golden blood seeped out of the wound, but not even a second later the wound healed leaving only a single drop of blood wobbling on his fingertip. This wasn’t on purpose; it was just that his body’s natural healing was too strong. A single drop of blood was the limit he could squeeze out without biting his finger repeatedly.

Thankfully, this amount was enough for Xai Lin.

Stepping forward, Xai Lin extended her palm and An Mo obediently flipped over his finger and allowed the drop of blood to fall into her palm.

Miraculously, the drop of blood retained its shape after falling into Xai Lin’s palm.

Staring at the drop of blood that was faintly glowing, Xai Lin could sense the mix of Mythical Divine Beasts bloodline within this one drop of blood. However... the mixture of bloodline was a bit more chaotic than she had anticipated, but she figured it was just a side effect of two Divine Beast bloodlines residing in one body.

Without a second of hesitation, Xai Lin tossed the drop of blood into her mouth. As the drop of blood slipped down her throat, she activated her cultivation technique.

This cultivation technique of hers was called the “Heaven and Earth Refinement Scripture”. It was actually one of the main protagonist’s golden fingers she had managed to snatch back when she was five years old.

As the youngest daughter of the Mountains and Seas Immortal Sect’s Sect Leader, and someone with an innate Heaven and Earth Dao Body, she should have been qualified to learn this cultivation technique. However, the original owner was spoiled and conceited, while being extremely obsessed with her appearance even at a young age. So, she was repulsed by the idea of swallowing Spirit Beast blood and ruining her beauty by transforming into a beast.

And so, a mysterious cultivation technique from legends that was used by the Sect’s first Immortal Ancestor, was deemed a trashy technique and was tossed aside by her, only to be picked up by an unassuming youth from the countryside during the Sect’s ten years Disciple Selection Ceremony. Even the last sliver of the Immortal Ancestor’s Divine Thought awakened to confer the title of Holy Son on that unassuming youth.

When Xai Lin was reading the book before and seeing such a character with his name discard such a divine cultivation technique, he had only felt it was a pity and that she got what she deserved. She had even turned around and started demanding the technique after the main protagonist rose to prominence among the praises of everyone in the Sect.

Needless to say, he cheered and clapped repeatedly every time she jumped out and was slapped in the face by the main protagonist. After she was eventually played to death by the main protagonist, he had even held a small funeral for her in his apartment, having been extremely happy that such a braindead and annoying character had finally been killed off.

But what about now?

Now that he was in her body, how could he have not felt despair when he first reincarnated?

Though after calming down, aside from despair, Xai Lin had also felt a bit of excitement. She had actually unlocked her past life’s memories at five years old, a day before the original owner gave up the opportunity to enter the Sect’s forbidden grounds where the trial for the cultivation technique was!
