Chapter 55—Infiltration of Oakhaven.
Chapter 55—Infiltration of Oakhaven.
A freezing, ash-laden wind swept across the jagged cliffs of Sector 9, carrying the heavy scent of burning mana oil and salt water from the harbor below.
Kaelen stood near the edge of the stone ridge, his eyes cold and methodical as he observed the sprawling military complex of Oakhaven Port.
Beneath the dark volcanic clouds, giant iron cranes swung massive crates or enchanted weaponry onto the decks of three dozen black-hulled Vaelorian warships.
Towering watchtowers, equipped with heavy mana-disruption ballistas, scanned the surrounding bay with wide beams of red light.
"The main barrier is running on a high-frequency grid," Ren said, crouching beside a basalt rock while tapping his glowing arm console.
"If we tried to force our way through the surface gate, we’d trigger an immediate level-three alarm. But with the access codes siphoned from those scouts, we can use the drainage channels beneath the eastern docks.
Lyra adjusted the straps on her silver traveling armor, her hand resting naturally near the blade. "How heavily guarded are the lower channels?"
"Routine patrols only," Ren replied, displaying a detailed holographic map of the port’s subterranean water infrastructure.
"The imperial high command doesn’t expect an attack from inside their own border zone. They think all potential threats are weeks away across the sea."Kaelen turned away from the cliff edge, his coat shifting quietly in the wind.
"Arrogance is always the fatal flaw of empires. Tsubaki, take the lead. Clean up any guards in the tunnels quietly."
"By your command, My Lord," Tsubaki answered softly, dissolving into the shadows like a wisp of smoke.
Minutes later, the party descended into a narrow, stone-lined drainage trench that emptied directly into the churning waters of the bay. Heavy iron grates blocked the entrance to the subterranean channels, glowing with faint blue anti-intrusion runes.
Ren stepped forward, pressing the dead scout’s stolen wrist gauntlet against the central rune plate.

With a heavy metallic hiss, the iron grate unlocked and swung inward.
The air inside the lower channels was thick with the stench of stagnant seawater and grease. Damp stone conduits stretched deep beneath the military docks, echoing with the distant hum of heavy machinery operating above.
Tsubaki moved twenty yards ahead of the group, his black katana drawn just an inch from its sheath. Every few minutes, the muffled sound of a failing body echoed through the dark tunnels as imperial sentries were silenced before they could even draw their weapons.

Within fifteen minutes of subterranean navigation, the party reached a massive iron ladder leading up to a reinforced floor gate.
A bright red light filtering down from above, accompanied by the loud shouting of dock masters and the clanking of iron chains.
Kaelen ascended the ladder first, peering through the iron slats.
They were positioned directly beneath Warehouse 7—a massive supply depot stacked fifty feet high with volatile mana-crystal craters, heavy ballista bolts, and barrels of refined monster oil used to power the warship engines.
"This is the main fuel and ordnance depot for the entire 4th Vanguard Fleet," Ren whispered from behind Kaelen on the ladder, his crimson eyes gleaming as he analyzed the energy density in the room above.
"If this warehouse goes up, the chain reaction will incinerate at least half of the warships docked along Pier 1 and Pier 2."Kaelen pushed the iron grate open with a soft, spatial spell that muffled the sound of stone scraping against metal.
He pulled himself up into the shadowy space between two massive rows of supply crates, his violet eyes sweeping the floor.
Dozens of imperial laborers and low-tier overseers were moving back and forth, loading crates onto heavy transport carts.
"We aren’t just blowing up a single warehouse,"Kaelen said quietly as Lyra and Ren stepped up onto the wooden floorboards behind him.
Lyra looked at him, her eyebrows rising slightly.
"You want to wipe out the entire harbor setup?"
"If we destroy only the fuel, they can replace it in a week," Kaelen explained smoothly.
"If we sabotage their central mana distribution array while detonating this depot, the overload will feed backward through their defensive grid, collapsing the entire port’s power infrastructure."Ren chuckled quietly under his breath, his fingers already working on a localized virus script on his console.
"A reverse feedback loop... that’ll blow out every mana cannon, barrier generator, and warship core in the harbor simultaneously. It’ll take them months to rebuild.""How much time do you need to tap into their central array?" Lyra asked, drawing her blade an inch to prepare for perimeter defense.
"Five minutes," Ren replied, his eyes focused entirely on the scrolling green code on his screen.
"I just need a direct terminal connection to the main conduit over by that central pillar."
Kaelen glanced toward the center of the warehouse. A heavy iron terminal sat embedded in a massive stone pillar, guarded by two heavily armored Vaelorian lieutenants holding glowing halberds.

"Tsubaki, take the left," Kaelen commanded, stepping out from the shadows of the crates.
"Lyra, secure the right side exit. None of the workers leave this room alive to raise the alarm."
Before the two armored lieutenants near the terminal could even turn their heads toward the sound of approaching footsteps, Kaelen materialized directly between them.
SCHWING!
A flash of violet spatial light cut through the dim air of the warehouse.
Both lieutenants froze in place, their eyes widening in sudden, paralyzed shock as clean back lines appeared across their throat plates.
A second later, both armored bodies collapsed silently to the floor, their halberds caught by Tsubaki before they could strike the wooden ground and make noise.

Kaelen’s eyes narrowed slightly as the system alert popped up in his vision.
He turned his head toward the upper windows of the warehouse, looking past the docks toward the giant stone Command Tower overlooking the harbor.
A powerful, suffocating pressure—far denser than any of the guards they had encountered so far in the port—was rapidly awakening inside the tower’s top chamber.
"Kaelen," Lyra whispered, her face growing serious as she felt the heavy aura pressing down from the distance.
"That signature... it’s a high commander."Kaelen’s lips curved into a cold, dark smile as his fingers gripped the hilt of his Void Blade.
"Let him awaken," Kaelen said softly. "It is much more satisfying to destroy an empire when their commanders are awake to watch it burn."
